Blogging 101

Here I go.  I'm blogging.  I think.

Everywhere I go I hear, "Henri, you've got to get a blog" or "Everyone's doing it.  You've gotta start blogging" as well as the oh so subtle "Everyone under 40 blogs!",  but the best reason I've heard for setting up a blog is "it is the best way to communicate to buyers and sellers about our real estate market".

Isn't that what I do, or try to do, every single day?  Sure, I love selling real estate.  Yes, I really love working with buyers and sellers, helping them achieve their real estate dreams and goals.  No, it is not a slogan, it is really what I believe and do.  And how do I do that?  I start every day asking myself, "What am I going to do today to help someone else understand real estate a little bit better?"

So, if blogging is truly the best way to communicate to buyers and sellers, then blogging I'm doing - or something like that.

Here's the deal.  It doesn't matter what the media is saying.  It doesn't matter what your mama, your daddy, your best friend, or big brother says.  We all know - good market, bad market, realistic market (more on that later) - real estate is still the best way to achieve personal financial success for most of us.  And all of us want personal financial success - don't we?

I know real estate.  More than that, I know the real estate market is moving fast, changing daily, and confusing the mess out of many would-be buyers and sellers.  Maybe I can help.  I'll try.   I work and live in the Hampton Roads communities of Virginia (Chesapeake, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk, Virginia), so I imagine most of my blogs will talk about these communities.  But, while real estate may be local it is fast becoming global.  So no matter where you live, chime in.

Let me know what you are thinking.  What are your real estate questions?  I'll try to answer them.  If I don't know the answer (and I don't know everything, although my husband says I think I do), I'll do my best to find the answer for you.  I do have a website (of course I do) and I have lots of information there that many buyers and sellers may find helpful.  Check it out, send me an email, let me know you've been to the website and what you liked and didn't like.  I'll be looking for you at http://www.homesbyellis.com  Send me an email (henriellis@cox.net) and I promise to personally respond to your question or comment.  When you're done, check back here and share your thoughts with others.

I'd like this to be not my blog, but yours.  Let's start blogging.

I've been building websites for years, but just started blogging. I like teaching and learning. I'm a broker and Instructor up in Westchester County NY but hey, i might need a realtor in Virginia.

Hello Peter.  Nice to meet you.  Having a name like Henri helps me stand out, don't you think?  I didn't like it as a tender-hearted 10-year old but it serves me well now.

I don't know NY very well.  I do have some clients in Saville and Bohemia.  Are those communities anywhere near you?

hi Henri,

I'm not sure where Saville and Bohemia are. I'm in the northern suburbs of NYC, so most of my work is between NYC and upto 1 hr north of the city.

I was joking about the name. I know what it feels like. I was born in Montenegro (a former state of Yugoslavia) with the name Zoran. I was 8 when I came to US. I had so many problems with kids and pronunciations/mispronuciations that I changed it to Peter. My wife always tells me that I shouldn't have changed it, but you know as a kid you just don't have the same mentality as you do when you become an adult.

btw, this blogging could become addictive, but I think it's a great way to get experienced with using computers and the Internet. you learn a lot.

good luck
