.REALTOR Domain URLs Are Now Available
As of this morning you can get a .REALTOR domain url for your real estate business, as long as you are a NAR member. There are many reasons why getting this domain is important, but the main reason I did for our Garrigus Real Estate Group is I couldn't imagine someone else owning my namesake! Another reason why I deemed it important is the love Google seems to give to websites with urls matching certain search terms; a website with the url Beaumont-CA-Tire-Store.com would tend to rank better for the search term "Tire stores in Beaumont CA" than GeorgesShop.com.
There are some limitations to what you can get in the url. Below is a short list of requirements and restrictions:
- As mentioned already, you must be a member of the National Association of REALTORS
- You cannot name your website based on a geographical location, like California.REALTORS
- You must use your name, either with your last name, or first name or nicknames, like Garrigus.REALTOR (There are specific rules to this, so visit the claim.realtor site to see their official set of rules)
- You cannot use team or group names- these are reserved for brokers. We couldn't use our group name: Garrigus Real Estate Group
- You must go through the Realtor website above to claim your url. I did this, and then hosted my new site through Godaddy, which was fairly simple once I did it.
- If you act quickly, you could get your new .REALTOR domain url for free for the first year. The NAR is giving the first 500,000 Realtors to sign up a free year of the domain registration. I got mine free!
If you need any help getting yours set up, please feel free to comment below and I will answer your questions, and then our comment thread can help others trying to get their url set up as well.
So if you're serious about your real estate business, I implore you to get your new .REALTOR domain!
