It all began with a spider ....

Spider - gabriellenemes.comSee, there was this spider. One of those big hairy things ... wood spiders that we get so commonly here in the Pacific Northwest this time of year. They begin coming in when the weather starts to get cool. They're not particularly dangerous, but they are startling.

As I sat down to work this morning in my precious first work hour between about 7am and 8am when I try to organize my thoughts for the day and tackle a task that I've been neglecting--like paying the bills or posting receipts or writing "thank you" and "how are you" notes to someone special--Anyway, as I sat down at my desk, there it was. Proudly waving its icky eyes at me. And then darting under the organizer at the back of my desk area. That place where stuff seems to collect in my "I better keep this" stash.

AACK!!

Total madness. I have to get this thing. I can't work until I know it's dead. WHAM with the sole of my slipper and it's gone. Whew. I can breathe now.

Except now my desk is in total disarray and I can see all the dust and stuff that's in the pile of ... "you'll never get to this." You know that spot. You probably have one too. Now I have to dust, and organize, and sort, and get rid of all this junk. So rather than clean up the mess immediately, I decided to write about it. That way I can justify my first hour of the day as crossing off an item that was sort of on my to-do list for the week.

The spider's dead. My desk is dead too. Onward we go.

... by the way ... I just about passed out looking for a spider image for this post. I hate the daggone things. AACK!!!!

Gabrielle, what a terrific Halloween post.. At my house, I always get called in take care of the spider, but they give me the willies, too!

LOL, Rick. The only good thing about this is that my desk is now clean, dusted and reorganized.

I think it's the total startle factor at play. I have a really hard time being sympathetic to the darned things when they skitter in front of me and then take off for the corner. Then I'm in it for the hunt. The daggone things freak me out.

And P.S. -- Thanks for the congrats!

Gabrielle~ I can't stand spiders or anything creepy crawly. They don't so much scare me, but they give me chills. I would have done the same thing!

Oh my gosh...well maybe next time you need to trap it and bring it to my house. Heaven knows I NEED to get my home office organized. If spiders will help, I say bring 'em on!!!
