Put yourself in my shoes, what would you do now?

As I walk down the street, I see many people in many different professions, but have I ever thought about them and what they do and how they do it? Have they ever looked at me, saw my name badge and thought about what I do and how they could do it better?

So, put yourself in my shoes and tell me what would you do now? This really isn't for other real estate agents, this is for everyone else in the free world. Why? Because today I was told about a networking group and they were giving the task of switching places with one other executive for the day, and to come up with a way to market themselves and their business.

What an idea! For someone become me for a day, a free pair of eyes and ears that doesn't know my market. This outsider is now looking in and giving me ideas of what they would do if they were in my position.

But, then I get to do the same for them and their business. What a concept! I really look forward to reporting back to everyone on the results of this experiment of "What would you do if you were in my shoes for the day?"

:8:  Your feets are bigger!  Now, you fitting into my shoes-that would be some trick!

Seriously, I try to write down five different steriotypes about professions that intersect with mine on a regular basis.  Then, I go direct to the source to disprove my beliefs.  This gives me insight to those I work with and allows me to anticipate their needs.

Here are three helpful tools for working with Notary Signing Agents:

1. We love it when borrowers bring their VALID, unexpired ID's to the signing.

2. We are quite capable of scheduling our own appointments with borrowers and actually this procedure saves time, is more convenient for all and usually results in signings happening much faster.

3. We are not familiar with any particular borrower's specific information and so, we are not there to sell a client on his or her "deal".  (The only thing we have to "sell" at the table is a 3-day right to cancel-if one exists)  It is always best that the clients broker has reviewed the documents in advance and has put their borrower at ease.  When a broker fails to do this, it's a crapshoot as to whether or not the deal will get sideways at the closing appointment.

I've enjoyed reading your blog-thought provoking!

Todd, I'm looking forward to hearing the results of your experiment.  I hope you get a good response/

I like that idea.  Most of the ideas I use for my marketing came from my experiences in another industry and from managing political campaigns.  The beauty of ideas from outsiders is that it will not be the same old stuff every other agent in your areas is already doing.

What a great concept.  This should provide some very useful insight into how we're perceived.  I'll definitely be looking forward to a future report.

Sounds like you should approach cable TV producers for a new reality show! Any ideas who would be the moderator? Bill Gates perhaps?  I can't wait till you write about your experience.

Todd,

Great idea, but it won't work for many...they don't want to know how to improve...they are 'afraid' of being 'rejected' by being told they're less than perfect already!!! JMHO, Thanks,   Fran

P.S. BTW, There are too many 'know-it-alls' around!!!
