Home Inspections (Are they worth the money?)

Home inspections are a critical part of house buying.

Should home buyers get a home inspection?  ABSOLUTELY!!

As a REALTOR® it is my duty to encourage potential home buyer’s to obtain a home inspection.

Having a home inspection can alleviate a lot of the stress of home buying.

This is a list of what an inspection should cover:

  • Siding/Brick Exterior
  • Foundations/Basement
  • Insulation
  • Doors and Windows
  • Ceilings, walls, and moldings
  • Porch/Deck
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Water Heater
  • Furnace/Air Conditioning
  • Garage
  • Attic
  • Roof
  • Septic Tanks (an additional fee for dye testing)
  • Driveways/Sidewalks

Make sure to ask the inspector questions:

Sample questions:

  • Are you licensed?
  • How much is a home inspection?
  • Do you guarantee your inspections?  How long?
  • How long have you been in business?
  • Do you have E & O insurance?
  • Do you have a list of satisfied customers that I can contact?

2 Comments on Why Get A Home Inspection?

Home inspections are definitely worth the money. It's like buying a used car (but on a lower scale). You want to test drive the car & have your mechanic check it out before you buy it. You never know, it could be a lemon your buying. Well, it's the same thing with buying a house, except this is only the biggest purchase you'll probably make in  your life. Great post Pam.

Thanks Eugene.  I had a buyer ask me this question today, so I thought I'd post about it.  Pam
