According to news reports a Makaha woman has filed a lawsuit against Duane Dog Chapman and his entourage. She has claimed that while Dog and his entourage were apprehending her boyfriend she had two bones in her back broken. This all happened during the filming of an episode for the reality TV show Dog the Bounty Hunter. This happened in Pearl City, Hawaii on January 26, 2005.
When asked why shy waited 2 years to file the lawsuit, 39 year old Audrey Emery said she was unsure whether or not she wanted to endure the scrutiny such an action would bring. Now she says all she wants is justice.
Named in the lawsuit are A&E Network, Dog Duane Chapman, his wife Beth, his brother Tim, his two son's Leland and Duane Lee and Dog's company DaKine Bail Bonds.
Attorney Richard Turbin filed the lawsuit in Honolulu Circuit Court last week on January 23rd. The A&E TV network along with the Chapman's bail bonds company, Da Kine Bail Bonds are also named in the suit.
As quoted in our daily paper:
Dog and his wife Beth issued a statement saying quote:
"Our family has become the target of frivolous lawsuits and publicity seeking attorneys. We pride ourselves in making sure that everything we do is within the bounds of the law and we are confident that we did so in this case. The video tape in the television show itself demonstrates that the charges against us are baseless. The fugitive's mother, who was the co-signer of the bond, specifically asked us to revoke her son's bond and we complied with her wishes. We treat our clients with compassion. In this particular case, as the program itself shows, we took Mr. Calistro to the hospital where he was found to have no new injuries."
If a settlement in the civil lawsuit cannot be reached a judge will decide whether to allow it to move forward for a possible trial.
Good Luck to the Chapman's they are truly local heroes.
PS: As I was writing this Dog the Bounty Hunter came on TV.
