I remember Halloween. Things were different when I was a youngster.
That said, I remember a different Halloween than many experience today.
There was no thought of razor blades or harmful substances in the treats. Parents didn't have to inspect the giant bag of treats we bought home.
Often the home owners would envite us in, give us a cup of punch and, of course, a treat.
We kids walked the neighborhoods in small groups and rarely saw an adult with children. Little children would be with older children. Parents were at home handing out candy treats or apples to Trick or Treaters.
All of this, mind you, in the heart of Washington, D.C. in the area of North Capitol and Bryant St for those who know D.C.
The only thing we did NOT enjoy about Halloween was when the weather was cool and I had to wear a sweater under my costume OR worse, a coat over our costume.
Another treat was that we wore our costumes to school on Halloween day.
Halloween was a serious holliday when I was a youngster.
