Here it is! Our Office in Asheville. It's on a corner with  huge old trees on either side, and a funeral parlor across the street...We joke about that sometimes. (You can fill jokes in as you might...)  We plan to do a bunch of "retrofitting"  each year. It's an interesting learning experience and challenging process.

Not long ago I asked all the real estate team what retrofitting they'd like to see done first.   Here's what they told me:

  • Solar Panels
  • Finish upgrading the windows
  • Finish the Low VOC painting
  • Organic garden out back
  • On-Demand Water Heaters
  • More Native landscaping

So I'm thinking...wait a minute...despite all the amazing new technologies and products that can improve quality of life for the REALTORS® and our clients at our Office, our Office already is "greening" the neighborhood in a special way.

It's a Vintage Retrofit!

Built with love and attention back in 1923, our Office must the biggest and most elegant recycled item I've ever invested in.

What's yours???

Awesome project and don't fret, we are next to a cemetary!  We offer real estate from the womb to the tomb!

janeAnne what a beautiful building.  I can imagine this is quite a project!  I love old homes and buildings, however, they can be a bit of a challenge.  It is often interesting to see the materials that went into these older homes -- You are fortunate to work in such a beautiful space.

This will be a great green office.  Sounds like a nice idea to have a garden in  the back also.

Your photographed home is adorable! I can well imagine it as a wonderful green office!

Leading by example. Great idea. Now folks can touch and feel a green building that isn't "wierd". Very cool.

The veggie garden is a really nice touch! Nothing like home grown basil and tomato salad in late summer!

Oh my! I am laughing. On your office being next to a cemetery ...You commented.."We offer real estate from the womb to the tomb! I guess we could borrow that since we are across the street f rom a funeral parlor (who's Funeral Director's name, by the way is Mr. GRAVES!!!

Joan~

I love the idea that we have non-toxic updates happening in our Office...Low VOC paint to me is a big advantage. hard to do business when fumes surround ya'

Christopoher~

I REALLY appreciate your comment. As an eco-innovator and real estate professional, I feel happy to be able to work from such a building.

Tell me about it! OK..besides the corn and cucumbers, I' going to take your suggestion and add heirloom tomatoes and basil...Next time you're heading our way, drop by for a salad...say in August...

What a beautiful building, janeAnne! It's perfect to have an office (or a house) with character, and now you can make it green as well. Document it for the world.

Sharon~

Good idea! Actually HGTV filmed here at our Office this year. I am told the segment will air next year during Green Week....so, n a way, would you think that might be documentation?...

I'll let you know when we do the Low VOCpaint work we are planning for the upstairs later this year...and we will be replacing windows in the coming months, too. We have replaced all lightbulbs throughout the Office with fluorescent lights, BTW>

janeAnne - I'd love to know when the HGTV show airs.

I love old homes. Your office is soooo cute! I realize the green thing is very important BUT is there a way the solar panals will not be seen? Have the solar companies improved the appearance of those big ugly black panals?  Congratulations on your wonderful office !

A worthy goal, janeAnne, I applaud your efforts to make this lovely home into a "green" office environment.

 Keep us posted on improvements.

There is something about brick houses that I just like - maybe my MOM read the Three Little Pigs to me  waaaay too much?

I love the look of your office JaneAnne and I am excited to see what upgrades you decide to implement first!!!
