Foamhenge just like "Stonehenge" but lighter.......

On Mother's Day 2007, my husband and I were bored (all the kids had plans)  so we drove out of Lynchburg, VA via 460 to the Blue Ridge Parkway and headed to Lexington, VA.  We came down the mountains stopped to watch the Trout Fishermen,  then rolled through Buchanan, VA  on Route 11 and headed to Natural Bridge. We looked around the gift shop, got a drink and then headed on up Rt. 11 towards Lexington.   We've been to Natural Bridge many many times and with the crowd that was there did not choose to "do the bridge" again.  As we headed on up the road and all of a sudden there appeared on a hillside plateau- STONEHENGE" - WHAT?!?!?!   Well we immediately turned into the parking area and started looking around - there was no one there, no "official looking" sign - you know the VA Tourism type of thing - just this:

We climbed up the hillside to walk among the stones - oh excuse me - I mean the foams.  This was the craziest thing we had seen in quite awhile and right in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains!  Here are the photos we took - one with my husband (I'm never in pictures because I take them all) but the others just the Foams aka Stones.  We were laughing and just pretty astounded that we had never heard of this remarkable site.  When we came home we told friends about it but none of them had ever heard of Foamhenge either.  So "Googled" is what we did and here you will find some links to related stories like ours and a few articles written about Professor Mike Cline who created and sculpted Stonehenge.

(Her pictures are much better than mine!)

Do yourself a favor on a boring Saturday or Sunday afternoon and take a drive up to Natural Bridge (http://www.naturalbridgeva.com/)  in Rockbridge County, VA.  You've got the "Bridge" - The Wax Museum, Professor Clines's Haunted Monster Museum & Dino Kingdom, the Toy Museum  and the "coolest gift store" you will find almost anywhere & the food's not bad either!   Ask any kid his favorite part of the trip and they will always say the gift shop and the machine that "smushes" a penny!   When you pull out of the parking lot you can go in one direction where you'll find the Natural Bridge Zoo and in the other direction you will find the infamous "FOAMHENGE."  You won't be sorry - besides this is a beautiful drive especially in the Spring and Fall Seasons.  Have FUN!!!
