What You need to Know About Pets

By
Real Estate Agent with Joy Daniels Real Estate Group, Ltd.

An Insurance company (that I love!) in our area sent me this post about pets.  I asked him if I could share it and he said  - absolutely!  While I love dogs, I have 3 cats.  I have found that cats don't require as much work.  I am so busy with work, that I feel I would not be able to give a dog the proper care.   At this moment I am sitting at my desk with 2 of my cats.  :)  A favorite way to work!

Enjoy this post and if you have any unique insurance needs contact Murdock Insurance.  I believe they will be able to help!

We have two large dogs.  I'm not too worried about either of them because they are only outside on a leash with Donald or me.  We also have a fence, but again we don't leave them in the fence when we are not home.  If someone however broke into my home and got bit or eaten in fact it would burn my burn my butt to get sued over that.  And my dog breeds aren't on the list, but they are very protective of our family.

What kind of dogs do you have Tammy Lankford ?  I was at a house yesterday and they had a big yellow lab and a little mixed breed, but both dogs seemed to get along quite well.

Thank you Bruce Hicks  . . . I assume you have pets.  :)

Don't know what happened to my comments but here they are again:  Although, on our rental management department, we have a "NO PETS" policy, we advertise NO PETS and in the contracts, there are NO PETS, still after moving in, the tenant will request to be allowed a pet.  The number of requests are increasing.  I clicked LIKE.

We have a black lab mix (rescue, so not sure) and a Great Dane mix (again we only know what the  mom at the pound was).  She was previously shot and is very skittish and super protective of me and weighs in about 98 pounds.  Glen is about 157 and well... when I walk him people stop and ask why I don't get a saddle and ride him.

Thank you for resharing your comments Bruce Hicks . . .  I did wonder.  :)  When a tenant has been told NO PETS, and then they request one, do you change your minds?

You have big doggies!!  I like big ones too.  :)  Thanks for letting me know Tammy Lankford

I have a little dog, a minpin. I don't really care for big dogs in my own home. I have a big grand-dog. Close enough to owning one.

Joy, Thanks for the information. Landlords/tenants  should always check with insurance companies about the premiums for certain type of pets .

I have seen insurance companies refuse insurance when certain breeds of dogs are present.  I'm not sure if this is a fair solution, but it is a fact for now.

Joy, I am not surprised that insurance companies are doing this.  I am surprised to hear that homeowners may be ineligible for insurance coverage if they own a dog or other exotic animal that an underwriter deems dangerous/risk.

I would think they would want to insure but exclude claims caused by the animals. It would be interesting to know how one determines if they will be ineligible for insurance.  Very interesting – thanks for sharing. This is definitely something I will add to my toolkit.
