Sure, this may be an old saying taken from Government, but I heard it last night and I just felt it fit.

Is our blog platform becoming a place to rant and rave, or is a place where we should learn and grow?  Yes, I know, I know, the press and the general public feel that we are the root of all evil, that we have created the trouble that we are all in currently.  Some even feel that we Realtors® have created the horrible economic situation the U.S. is currently facing.

My thoughts? Wake up, stop your complaining, and do your job!  Real estate markets are not the same around the nation.  All markets are local.  What is true in Dover New Hampshire, may not be true in Boston Massachusetts, or Phoenix Arizona.

Now, I may not get the comments and feedback that I expected for this post, but every now and then I just need to get things off my chest too.  When I first started selling real estate in New Hampshire I was extremely frustrated with my surroundings.  I live in a small town, population of a little less than 15,000 people.  I grew up in this town, and thought that I knew practically everyone in town, real estate would come easy, (RIGHT!).  People would want to buy and sell, and naturally they would call me.  To my dismay, they did not call me, write me, or email me.  I was very upset when signs were popping up in MY NEIGHBORHOOD . How dare they sell their home without consulting me first?

mad person

Then I thought about it.  What was I doing that would want them to come to me, to help them BUY or Sell a home in New Hampshire?

Nothing!

I felt the heat around me, but I just could'nt see the light!  I soon realized, it's not the people that were my problem, it was not the local market, good or bad.  It was me that was the problem.  I was not giving them a reason to call me, or email me, or write me.  I needed to be more pro-active, get myself out there, and show them I was the best at what I do.  So, my little rant, my little recommendation to you, stop worrying about what might be wrong with the  market, stop getting mad about sluggish sales, or the NBC nightly news telling the consumer the world is going to end because of Realtors®.  Get out there, do your job, and create a better market for yourself.  Envision the light, don't just stand there and take the heat!

My little rant for the day!  Thanks for listening.

Good points. I must say I am sick and tired of all the negative I hear from Realtors I co-op with.

Bill - When I read the rants I have to wonder if people realize that they are typing into the internet which is world wide and forever. I agree with you that getting up and doing your job is the better plan!

Thanks for a friendly wake up call amidst a sea of passive negativity.

Bill- we need a kick in the pants now and then, I also truly believe you can't sit in the office and fret about the market. My wife and I went skiing today it occurred to me this is why people choose to live where I practice. I have just as much chance of talking to a prospective client while doing what we like to do, as sitting by my phone.

You are absolutely right.  Although, with all the snow we have had this year -- I can handle a little "heat" -- just bring on the sunshine!

Bill - How right you are. When we are out there getting into the community and marketing our services, the business will come. Just keep doing what we know and learning what we don't and the rest will follow.

Yea Bill! You're exactly right. This is a different market than two years ago, we'd better change and adapt and be positive if we want to attract new business. Great post!

Bill:  How true!  When I have agents coming to me complaining that they aren't busy, I tell them that they need to treat real estate like a real job, like a real business.  It's not easy, it's hard work, but the more you put into it the more you get out of it.  If you want to sit around and complain, get out of my office! Bad energy breads more bad energy.  Great Post!

I agree with you. Down here, people used to just do floor calls and sell two or three houses a week. Now you have to be pro-active or your family doesn't eat.

Jeff and Mona - I think I just got tired of hearing it all too! Time to get out and work.

Meris - Thanks for stopping in and reading.

Steve - I use my everyday activities too.  While at the hockey rink I pass out my card all of the time.

Joan - I'm so ready for the sun and warm weather.  I was out taking photos around town the other day freezing my butt off.  But I had to work!

Judy- I'm always amazed at all of the advertising I do, blogging, etc..  I get a majority of my business from my personal contacts.  Getting back to the basics and just working works!

Debbie - I've noticed this is an ever changing market.  I can't expect to get results with things I was doing just last year.

Katherine - It is a career.  It took me a little while to figure that out, but it needs to be treated as a personal business with everything at stake.

Matthew - Those days are long gone.  We all have to get out there and generate the business now.

I was the same way when I started out. I didn't realize, at first, that most of my sphere didn't think of me as a Realtor. Their perception was I was a Stay at Home Mom who happened to get her real estate license. (I could even fault my husband for some of this thinking, as he wasn't 'on board' so to speak.)

Once I figured out what the issue was and got myself out there, things changed. I have now put myself out there. I let everybody know I am a Realtor and I ask them for their business. Business may not be booming right now, but I am confident that I have a firm place in this market.

Great post, Bill!  The bottom line is that we have no one to blame but ourselves.  We are the only ones responsible for our success!

JoEllen - Most of us start out as the "secret Agent".  Not a very good thing for business.  Our sphere is our most important tool in the beginning.

Sharon - Thanks for stopping in and commenting.
