Gosh, it's been too long since I've written and I usually write about SEO and such but this week has brought a new topic to light... the school shooting at Marysville Pilchuck Highschool.
You see, I'm in Marysville; just about 5 minutes away. My Facebook blew up with the news since so many people I know live around here. People called me to find out what's happening because they know I stare at my computer screen all day.
Every day I pray for the safety of our kids, teachers, bus drivers, staff and faculty, not just for my kid's school but for schools all over America. I pray protection against acts of evil and those of natural disaster. I am convinced that God hears me and that it could have been much worse.
A student with a grudge met with his friends and relatives in the cafeteria that morning and put a gun to the back of all their heads and pulled the trigger. That was his last day on earth and he took 2 more kids with him. 3 are still in the hospital with long recovery roads ahead of them. We live next to an Indian Tribe, the Tulalip, which was involved. There are about 5 major families to this tribe and 2 were involved in this shooting. The repercussions of this kid's bad decision will be felt forever, not just with his family but with the tribe and this community.
I didn't feel this was a crazy-eyed psycho that walked into a place in order to take down whomever was there. This was a hurt, crushed kid that couldn't see past his anger and frustration. At 14 it's so hard to think that this too shall pass; it's not a forever kind of thing. We feel that one horrible day is all there is. Well, because of this feeling, it truly was for many in our community.
All over town are red and white ribbons (the school colors), balloons, love, support, pride. Several youth from our church were in that cafeteria, saw the shooting, had blood on their clothes. They are still trying to heal from the trauma they saw. So many knew the kids involved; just 14. Babies. So much life ahead of them. My own dear friend was a lunch lady in the cafeteria that day. She has talked about the police, the lock down, the search, the blood. It's healing to talk about it but yet so raw still and real. I have held people, cried with them, prayed with them and hugged them.
Our church held the vigil on Friday night and has opened it's doors all week to the hurting and the wounded for counseling and simply a place to not be alone. This isn't about gun control, it isn't about legislature, it isn't about bad parenting. It's about a bad decision. One bad decision.
Don't ever let a bad decision be the last decision you make. Choose life, love and forgiveness. We forgive.
