My Neighbors are Zombies! Do I Need to Disclose This?
We have lovely neighbors, the Zombies, and although we haven’t invited them to dinner yet they seem nice enough. Always wandering the neighborhood, arms outstretched and mumbling something about trains or brains or something like that. I’m wondering, if I sell my home do I need to disclose that my neighbors are a little different?
I also have a friend, Dr Frankenstein, who has asked me to help him sell his castle. He has a laboratory in the basement that uses a little more electricity than most homes. I know that you need to disclose the presence of a meth lab but this lab is used for some kind of experiments that make the other lights in the neighborhood go dim from time to time. Seems harmless enough but is he required to disclose his long hours and his assistant sneaking out at night to look for hard-to-find items for his experiments?
Another seller I spoke with mentioned that his home is haunted. You know, flying spirits, spooky voices, rattling chains …that kind of thing. I asked him if there had been any deaths within the last 3 years in the house, since this is something you do have to disclose in California. Apparently there had been a sea captain and a woman in white and an argument that didn’t end well. But this was near the turn of the century so no reason to burden a new buyer with this ancient history. And as long as the ghosts aren’t causing any real problems probably nothing to disclose there either.
We are told to disclose, disclose, disclose but the homes in my neighborhood don’t seem to fit the usual guidelines. Oh well, my wife, Cruella, and I like it here and don’t mind that the neighbors are a little unusual.
Happy Halloween!
