Who needs safety, we need to close!

I received a call yesterday from a lender wanting an inspection done the same day so they could close on the deal. The home was inspected already and a few issues were found, but the lender did not want to fix the issues. She mentioned that since it was a conventional loan and not FHA that safety issues did not apply. They would rather hire someone to say that the issues are irrelavant and the home is safe anyway. She said it is an old home and must be safe if someone is living there, and besides, you have insurance anyway. She went on to mention that the inspector they usually use died suddenly and they need a replacement to do inspections like this on a more regular basis.

I did not have time to argue how wrong I think her practices are, but told her I was not the inspector she is looking for. I just have to say Wow, Really.

I remember seeing stuff like this just before the last real estate crash.
