St Petersburg Florida's International Folk Festival is running today, November 1 & tomorrow, November 2, 2014. This is the 40th annual SPIFFS and there are 40 countries being represented there this year.
We got there just a little after the 10 am opening and made the rounds, checking out all of the various foods that each country had to offer before making any decisions. The eggrolls from Laos were excellent, as there the egg rolls from Thailand.
Naturally, Ron tried one of the Indian dishes and I had some perogie from the Ukraine. There were dancers from Thailand, Taiwan, Scottland, Germany and many other nations on the two separate stages.
We brought home both poppy seed cake and nut cake rolls from the Ukrainian booth and it was delicious - just like my grandmother and mother used to make. I haven't made either in so many years that it made me want to do it again. That and some home made perogie would be excellent!
If you haven't been to SPIFFS, you do want to go. It is outside this year, each nation in their own tent and with this sudden artic blast we are having, it is unusually cold for November 1st in Florida! Be sure to bundle up, it only got up to 63 degrees today and I think it started at 65 in the morning...........it is going to be a COLD night!
