Rich Jacobson Joins the 100,000 point Club

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Retired Associate RE Broker

It is with great honor that I cross the 100,000 point mark with Rich Jacobson.  When we realized that we were going to cross this point at the about the same time, we connected over the phone.  Ok, he was my Sunday call this week, it just seemed right to call him and talk with him about this monumental transition.  We both love our communities, and both have enjoyed the journey here at Active Rain.  Both are strong believers in Active Rain and yesterday I read his entire BLOG here at Active Rain and he has written a lot of great stuff here.  He surpised me this morning with his post about me, so o in honor of this achievement, I am giving you the Rich first 100,000 in review.  Articles that I think are why I think he makes such a great contribution to Active Rain and that I think you might all enjoy...

In rereading his posts it reminded me that sometimes you should go back and review posts.  Sometimes there is a bit of wisdom, inspiration to do something new, or just a chuckle to brighten your day.  And of course no review from me would be complete without his first BLOG post here at Active Rain...

My Personal Favorites:

  • Make Way for the next member of the 100k Club - what a wonderful Valentine!   Thank you so very much!
  • What's Your Strategy? Great article on how are you going to use Localism...
  • Adventures in 1st Time Home buying -  This is an installment in a series of posts that are universal in their appeal
  • Week In Review - why was it one of my favorite?  It gave me the courage to do my own thing when it was my turn to do the week in review...  One doesn't always have to to what everyone else has, and Rich definitely lead the way in my doing it my way...
  • Big Apple Diner - now I am very hungry!  Loved the photos and the review!  Definitely something that I need to start doing!
  • A Thankful Heart - sometimes we as writers have to let people into our lives, this is just one of those moments that I saw how much Rich loves his family...
  • The View from Here - I love how he shares his area with us and makes us want to be there.  Much inspiration for my own posts about Naples and Marco Island....

Thought Provoking:

  • Sometimes the Truth Can Hurt - Shares some insight into writer Joe Zekas and how some of his stuff is helpful albeit the delivery isn't always the best.    It got over 60 comments, so there was some great discussion here.  Something that we can always count on Rich to get the dialogue started...
  • Time is Money vs Client Compassion - Another great example of how Rich gets us to think about things...
  • Singing in the Rain - I love the quote "getting information over the Internet is like drinking from a fire hydrant!" it is so true about the information that we deal with here at Active Rain.
  • Active Rain Addiction - It Can Happen To You - we all have experienced some level of it, great reminder to not let it will take over your life...
  • The Price is Right! (or is it?) - Pricing always a hot topic, and this was a great post about it
  • Profile Photos on Active Rain - 134 comments were generated so the moral of the story -- Put your photo on your profile!   But not just any old photo either...

Just for Smiles:

Example of his Active Rain Community Activism:

  • Active Rain becomes Active Rich -- that was soo very cool, the next day was my birthday  It just goes to show you how much of an impact Rich has on this community when almost everyone changed their picture to Rich's for the day. You are really special when you get that many people to coordinate something that big!
  • Mentors - Have one or Be One - great reasoning behind mentoring being useful in this industry.
  • About Being a Groupie - When something new happens, Rich has always been great at explaining the situation and opening up a great dialogue.
  • Frequent Comment Rewards Program - Brings up the important fact that BLOGs are interactive, not only should people post a comment, they should answer and interact with the writer.  And the writer with the reader -- this is how you build a readership.
  • Motivational Speaker Wanted - need something, post about it and members will share...  Call me when you get Terry Watson!  He was amazing!
  • The Active Train that Could - such great encouragement for the new writer here...
  • A Few Bad Apples - Let's face it we are a social network, people are not always going to get along, and there are disagreements -- great reminder that it doesn't have to get ugly...  We are representing our industry and ourselves, we should always be positive and professional.
  • Give Peace a Chance - we as a community from time to time stumble and experience growing pains.  Rich gave us a challenge to change the mood.  He did what I wasn't sure how to do, he took the lead and improved the mood...
  • Blog or get off the Pot - a cry to get people more active here...

This is a community that has given so much, for those of you who recently joined, the thought of 10,000 points seems overwhelming, but by the time you get to the 100,000 points, something changes, it no longer is important.  The amount of effort you have to put forward to get to this level is monumental, and once you get into the habit, your writing improves, your knowledge increases and you are forever changed.

Rich congratulations on reaching the 100,000 points plateau.  You have earned every single point!

That was extremely cool of the two of you to write about each other reaching the milestone.  Sometimes it is hard to toot your own horn.  It also means more comking from someone else.

Congratulations on your AR achievement. If you don't mind my asking, in terms of your profession itself, has accummulating your rankings or being ranked as highly in AR  as you must be helped in terms of consumer inquiries or increased opportunities through networking?

Charles, that's a great question. I think most of us get to a place in our involvement here where points and ranking really don't have much importance or bearing on what we do or why we're here. At first, it's very easy and typical to get caught up in the competitive nature of this platform. And it can become rather obsessive! But you learn to pace yourself, and find the true value of ActiveRain - learning, being challenged, networking with other professionals, developing lasting relationships, and yes, encountering clients who have found you on the Internet through ActiveRain & Localism. It's happened to me many times. So there is value in the degree and level of your involvment here. Points and ranking is just some nice frosting on the cake!

George, Faye & Bernie -- Thanks!

Charles -- Initially the points got me to write and over time my writing became better.  I found my audience and place.  Somewhere along the way the points became less important to the calls and emails of thanks when I have made a difference in someone's life.   I have made connections that I would have never made had I not joined here at Active Rain.  Professionally I have grown in a direction that I am enjoying.  I found some great mentors and I am learning to become a mentor to others.  There are great values to being part of this network.
