Metairie is in the Jefferson Parish in the state of Louisiana. It’s an unincorporated area that is part of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. The population of Metairie is 138,481. Metairie borders New Orleans, Kenner, Lake Pontchartrain, and Airline Highway. The border between New Orleans and Metairie is the 17th Street Canal.

Metairie is served by the Jefferson Parish Public School System. Most high school students attend East Jefferson High School or Grace King High School, but there are several areas zoned to Alfred Bonnabel High School and Riverdale High School. Middle school students attend John Q. Adams Middle, T.H. Harris Middle, J.D. Meisler Middle, and Bunche Accelerated Academy.

There are upwards of thirty private schools that serve the city. Some of those schools are Archbishop Chapelle High School, Heritage Academy, St. Clement of Rome School, Torah Academy, and New Orleans Jewish Day School.

Metairie is home to the headquarters of the Jefferson Parish Library system, The East Bank Regional Library. Other public libraries in the city are the Wagner Library, the Old Metairie Library and the Lakeshore Library.

Interstate 10 runs through Metairie, and the city’s main method of transportation is by personal automobile. The city is served by Jefferson Transit, but it has limited times of operation within the area. Other major roads connected to Metairie are Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Airline Drive, Jefferson Highway, and West Esplanade Avenue.
