This low-key, upscale, San Diego oceanfront community just north of Del Mar and south of Cardiff-by-the-Sea tends to offer a little more affordable coastal living than its neighbors, complete with lots of small-town charm and spectacular Pacific Ocean views. Search Solana Beach Homes for sale

Originally developed as an avocado growing center in the 1920s, today Solana (Spanish for “sunny”) Beach offers a casual lifestyle filled with plenty of sunshine along its two-mile coast and an easy-going Southern California beach town personality. Solana Beach homes are about a 30-minute drive from downtown San Diego along the I-5.

A collection of small retail stores, restaurants, motels and service businesses line the scenic Coast Highway 101 as it winds through Solana Beach. The Eden Gardens district is popular with the locals for its string of authentic Mexican restaurants. Another crowd-pleaser is the Cedros Design District that showcases a growing number of art galleries, clothing boutiques, furniture and antique stores. The Cedros Design District also hosts the Belly Up Tavern, a well-known nightclub famous throughout San Diego County for its live music and dancing. The popular tavern was even recognized by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the “hottest clubs on the West Coast.” Solana Beach home owners love their festivals too, with annual Fiesta Del Sol event attracting thousands of music lovers to Solana Beach every June.

As with many North San Diego County beach communities, Interstate 5 divides Solana Beach homes for sale into two distinctive neighborhoods. San Diego home shoppers will find a friendly beach living west of the I-5 with older homes in Solana Beach sprinkled along the ocean bluffs, hillsides and canyons with incredible ocean views. Solana Beach home choices on the Pacific Ocean side also include a number of gated condo choices which tend to attract seasonal renters and second home buyers. On the east side of the I-5, also known as Lomas Santa Fe,  home hunters will find newer residences and gated condo developments with more of a country club ambiance. Many of these homes are executive residences built on larger parcels of land. One of the luxuries of a west Solana Beach home is the nearby Lomas Santa Fe Country Club which offers exceptional golf and tennis. The homes in Solana Beach are also a short distance from the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and the Del Mar Fair.

Solana Beach is a family-friendly place with award-winning School District, while the prestigious San Dieguito Union High School District manages the high school students who attend the Torrey Pines High School in Carmel Valley. Two Solana Beach community centers, Fletcher Cove and La Colonia, also serve the community.
