So after 14 years I decided it was time for a master bathroom remodel. My budget is more for a nice face lift than a total gut.
The whole project started because the drywall started peeling above my fiberglass shower so my solution was to add ceramic tile above. Easy right? Well then I started looking at the tile around my tub deck, which is a shiny white 4x6 tile and decided that had to go. The vinyl tops had to go to but I wanted to keep my ceramic tile floor (budget reasons but it is a nice neutral color).
So now I had to find a granite color I loved and also a tub deck tile that would pull it all together. I was working with a piece of granite that was about 4 inches by 4 inches, a substantial piece and a good representation of the granite I thought. I found a subway tile that I thought was perfect for around the tub and above the shower.
All set.....until the granite was installed. LOVE the granite, but now the subway tile is all wrong! Luckily I did not order it yet!
So here is what I learned: Do not buy/order all your selections all at once. Once my granite went in it changed my mind on the tile and I am quite sure this could have happened with the floor as well if I were changing that. I think designers recommend starting with the floor and move your way up, but since I was keeping my floor, the granite was the next step. At the risk of stating the obvious, the granite looked quite different when installed even though it was spot on with my sample. I think it's because it's just a lot of square footage compare to the amount of tile.
By the way, the glass tile I originally rejected is the one I am now going to use:)
