Buyers should know up front, as real estate professionals, it is our job to assist them in finding a home they would be most happy in, not to decide if a particular neighborhood is a “good fit.”
Before purchasing a home, if there is any question in your mind about the neighborhood, it might be a good idea to do some research both in terms of talking to people and checking out the area different times of the week and of the day. By being proactive in your research, you may just save your sanity...
Some of the things you may want to consider are noise problems such as barking dogs and loud occupants. Do people maintain their yards (house proud), is the road busy or is it local traffic only? Are there unlicensed vehicles parked in the driveways?
Talk to the neighbors, as for the nosey ones, they can be a blessing, they know and see everything.
Knock on a neighbor’s door and engage them in conversation (without interrogating) to get a feel about the neighborhood to confirm or alleviate your concerns.
Beware though Buyers, do keep in mind the neighbors you chatted with may have misled you. They could be the ones that caused disharmony in the neighborhood.
