What are the pro's and con's of the Do not call list?

According to the most recent AARP Bulletin (April 2008) [choke], yes I do get that now...LOL, if you have placed your phone numbers on the "Do No Call List" they stay there unless you personally call and have them delete it from the list.

In the beginning when this list began, you were told that you have to call every 5 years and update your phone number with them to remain on the list, this is no longer the case. According to this information provided by the AARP, telemarketing to cell phones is illegal...REALLY! That's good to hear since, those telemarketer's don't seem to realize they are calling my cell phone...I guess since it's out there on my listing sign's I'm fair game...or am I?

You can sign up to the Do Not Call List by contacting them by phone at 800-382-1222 or go to their website at www.donotcall.gov. I know here in Florida there is a Do not call List, however, not all state's provide this service.

Do you feel that this precludes you from receiving any leads?

Does your state have a "Do not call list"?  Do you know? Have you contacted them to place your number on the list if they have one?  What are the pro's and con's to the "Do not call list?"

Would love your opinions.

It is a great thing.  Especially when you get calls and demand money - they will pay.

I am not on the DNC list because that enables me to receive the garbage phone calls that promise you the world. In turn that lets me warn my listeners!

Now that's a good reason not to be there, but those telemarketer's drive me nut's and waste my time. :-)

I'm like you, I don't get many calls on the home/office phone, BUT I am starting to get them on my cell phone....which is very annoying.

I even had them block my cell phone number as well...but they still sneak through.  I rarely answer call's market PRIVATE or UNKNOWN.  If their call is important they can leave me a message with a number where I can call them back.

I still get people calling me at home all the time.  I told the callers that I'm on the list and they still continue forward even after being warned....finally they say that they're a mortgage lender.  Needless to say, after I told them that I'm the VP of a national mtg company...they finally hang up.

Why don't you call the "National Do Not Call" list and make sure your number is still on their list...it may have been removed in error or something like that.

I get faxes now instead of phone calls...that annoy's me even worse...at all hour's of the night and day!

Karen unfortunately I just learned that if you list your cell phone number on business related areas like craigs list, office signs etc, its considered a business number and the telemarketers can get around the DNC by stating its a Business to Business call therefore ungoverned :(

Karen: I stopped answering my home phone because anyone that knows me uses my cell. We only have a land line to find our cell phones in the house. 8-)

If my cell starts getting calls.... And I hate those faxes too. They waste ink and paper!

You certainly struck a cord!  My cell phone some how got on someone's list that thought I would be interested in investing in movie production companies.  Hmmmm?
