Playing the waiting game.

In the real estate business, there is a time to press forward, to push, to be assertive. And then there is the time to pull back and wait for all the pieces in the puzzle to come together. At that point in time, you have done what you could and now the "approvals" or "acceptances" is up to others.

THIS IS A DIFFICULT PART OF OUR BUSINESS

In real estate we try to anticipate all the next steps that our clients or "the other side" will take and have a plan waiting to take a transaction to the next step.

Sometimes information comes to you mid-transaction which makes you alter or change the course of the transaction.

Sometimes there is just nothing else you can do but twiddle your thumbs.

MY THUMBS DON'T LIKE TO TWIDDLE.

Oh yes, there is lots I can do to keep busy like writing this blog, call some other clients, do some research, etc. but there is that feeling that if I start any of them, I will miss that moment in time where I can pounce back on the transactions and take them to the next step.

WHY DOES TIME DRAG BY AT THESE TIMES?

OK, enough introspection,  back to work. And there is plenty of it right now. Almost like everyone wants to get into the real estate market before the end of the year. Which is fine with me. After all, I hate to twiddle my thumbs.

Debbie Reynolds - It's so HARD to wait. But then I start a blog and it clears my head for other projects.

Grant Schneider - Today I did not feel patient. Time is running out and before we know it the Holidays are on us, never mind the end of the year. And I want to get them DONE for my clients.

Our business, at least mine, is one of feast or famine.  I can sit for months with nothing to do and then it all comes together. It would be nice if things were just steady.

Hella, I do not like to wait for responses either. I can be a real nail biting experience for agents and clients. That is why when I am the lisitng agent I notify all parties within hours of meeting with the sellers to accept an offer. It is not something I drag my feet on. Once that is done then I can twiddle my thumbs and toes.

Joan Cox - There is a fine line between being pushy and being concerned.

Joe Petrowsky - And when it comes to fence sitting on getting a loan, my advice to your clients is "don't wait". The best homes on the market right now are being bought up quickly. There may not be a second chance for the one you want.

Jane Peters - Yes, sometimes clients hold back and it is all you can do not to give up on them. Usually there is a very good reason but they don't tell you. Have that with one client now. No word for months, and now all gung ho to go. Whatever the reason, they got their problem solved to go ahead.

Kathleen Daniels - It does pay to keep everyone informed even if nothing is happening for a few days. And that's one way to "push" without being pushy.
