This made me laugh so hard.  Then I put in my RSVP.  I'm going to learn how to network to the "Good Ol' Boy Club".  Considering I'm a young female from Southern California with blond hair, blue eyes and occasionally say "Dude", I figured I could use all the help I could get.  Yes, this Club exists.  I moved to Johnston County NC where you pass cows on the way to the Piggy Wiggley or Smithfields BBQ.  But funny thing is, that's why I love it so much.  These southern folk know a bit 'bout family virtues and good 'ol southern hospitality.  Don't laugh till you've made it to a "Pig Pickin'" and had "Pic Pickin' Cake".  God, I love this place, where you either shoot it, stuff it or wear it (my favorite saying by Sandra Bullock in Hope Floats).

I'll be sure to blog my notes.

I love this Tracy! How fun! Who is sponsoring this event? When is it? I don't want to miss your blog - it's going to be great. After eight years, I'm still an "outsider" here in Missouri. I need such a class!

Tracy - What in the H.E. double Hockey sticks made you move to Johnston County, North Carolina.  Good Lord girl have you lost yer mind.  :-)

Actually I live just down the street from you in Wendel.  I was born and raised in a little town called Dunn, I am sure you have heard of it.  The day I graduated from high school I left NC and 21 years later I have moved back.  I just moved back here from Dallas, TX.  What a different world.  I have many friends from So. Cal.  I sewed a lot of oats in the irvine area.

The good ole boy network is a very tuff network to get in with.  My first piece of advice is, 'don't even hint that you are from somewhere else'.  Try to remember everybodies names and tell them you are related to the barefoot clan.  If that don't get you in then nothing will.  My father was an Icon in Harnett County and I know a couple of the good ole boy top dawgs and I still feel like I don't belong.

The best of luck to you,

John

Welcome to the South! You will love it here! I live in Atlanta (well, Suwanee actually). Originally from the mid-west, there is no better place than the South. My brother and sister-in-law live in NC and it is all you say it is. Sit back, relax and enjoy! Life's a little more laid back in the South.

Tracy

There is a great book out , that I try to give to my "girl friends" in business it is called

"The old girls network" and it really does put the "good ole boys" to shame. I am a Southerner as well and there are many secrets that are never disclosed while business is being conducted.

Debbie, it's being held in Raleigh.  Wish you could come.

John, My sister-in-law married someone from Fuquay Varina and has been here 10 years. When we decided to leave CA it was  just natural for us to come here.  It's a common story I hear from others.  They just picked a dot on the map far away.  I have been through Dallas numerous times and have friends in Tyler, TX.  I'm sure you know where my office is, on the Flowers Plantation off 42E.  Good to find you on AR.
Speaking of Irvine, my parents use to live near El Toro before it closed.  Now they live in Mission Viejo.  Thanks for the advise.
