A Free Store for Veterans: An Idea Whose Time Has Come

Flag by Ventrilock on freedigitalphotos.net     You're probably thinking this is a gimmick, right?

No way is there an actual "Free Store for Veterans".

Think again.  There IS an actual Free Store for Veterans in Need.  Or at least there will be next week.

Beginning Monday, November 17, Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel and their immediate household who are in need should call the Veteran's Miracle Center (VMC) at (518) 486-8398.

From November 17th on, you can call the VMC at (518) 486-8398 or go to a number of organizations including the VA and the Red Cross, the VFW, the Center for Independence, Soldier On, and the Albany Housing Coalition, among others and show your DD 214.

As your needs are verified, a shopping list is created.  That list can include daily necessities, such as toiletries, diapers and clothing.  It can include almost anything you could purchase in a department store or Home Depot.  And yes - it can even include the kitchen sink.

You will then be given a shopping appointment time, when you can go to the VMC with your shopping list of needs.

And their ability to meet those needs is impressive.  The supplies are massive,  and they continue to receive donations from multiple sources.

This is not a little storefront.  It's a huge warehouse store.

If you'd like opportunity to see what's available to the Veterans and their families - please come out to an Open House at 10 Interstate Av, Albany (Colonie), NY this Saturday, November 15th from 10 am - 1 pm.  No shopping will be done at that time - but you will be able to see what Veterans have in store for the future.

There will also be more than supplies available to the Veterans.

To quote the home page of the Veteran's Miracle Center - "The Miracle Center's mission is to offer veterans and active-duty military personnel real solutions that will enhance their lives.  (They) seek to provide clothing, personal care and hygiene products, houseware items, ambulatory equipment, toys for their children and much more - as well as specialists available in counseling for personal needs, jobs, housing or financing.  All goods and services will be available free-of-charge to veterans and their immediate household."

The Veteran's Miracle Center's message to Veterans is - Welcome Home to Hope, Friends!

If you or your company or organization would like to contribute new or like-new items to the Veteran's Miracle Center, or want to volunteer to help in any way, please call (518) 486-8398.  And coming out to the Open House this Saturday would also be a great way to encourage the Center and the Veterans they serve.

We had the Managing Director of the Veteran's Miracle Center, Jim Pratt, on our radio talk show, Real Estate Made Simple, this past Friday, and he is so excited about what is now available for Veterans in the Capital District.

The Veteran's Miracle Center was started under the umbrella of Jezreel International, a humanitarian aid organization that has been meeting needs all over the country and the world for decades.

As a mother, daughter, aunt and sibling of Veterans, I am so thankful for the hearts behind the Veteran's Miracle Center.  It all began when Barry Feinman, the Founder and Executive Director of Jezreel International, decided to have a day of celebrating the Veterans and invited them in to partake of the supplies available at Jezreel.  The turnout was astounding.  And caused him to say this can't be a one-time thing.  The Veterans need a place they can count on to be there for them in their time of need.  Then, armed with a large grant from Home Depot, they set out to create what may very well be a first-of-its-kind Miracle Center that works to meet as many of the needs of our local Veterans as they possibly can.  And do it in a way that creates hope for their future.

Not a hand out - It's a hand up.

Come Join Us this Saturday, November 15th from 10 am - 1 pm at the Veteran's Miracle Center Open House, 10 Interstate Av, Colonie, NY.

Capital District, this is our opportunity to say a tangible Thank You for our Freedoms.
