but not quite.

I've been working on my video contest entry. I still think I need some work. I'd love to hear some impressions. Don't worry, I can take it. I already am not loving appearing on camera... and I know that I need better actors... but hey, fast and cheap. I might have to try something with an actual budget.

Thanks for viewing it.

Wow, I put some thought into doing a video but I am just not that brave yet.  Good job for making the effort, it is a great start.

Lane,

I would tell you the truth but on only one condition. When I make a movie (and I noticed it too late to jump in), you would do the punching.

1. Voice. Does not sound very well. Echos. Really do not know what you can do, but if you can to do anything, try to rerecord the sound.

2. Your presentation is very long. You start terrific, when you say that you sell houses... with big garages. That was good. But then you keep on and on and on, and with the sound quality, it takes effort to follow. You do not need to tell them everything you know.

3. It is very static. You talk and talk. Break it into 3 or more segments. You say that love to sell houses with big garages. At that moment you better stand not between two pictures inside the house, but in front of the house and while you are saying this the garage door is opening, and everyone see a big garage with a truck in the garage and young couple kissing in the truck bed and when they see the camera, they notice the camera and sit down, so when you finish saying "with big garages" you turn to the garage and gesture towards it, you do not see the kissers. It will add the element of fun and make the presentation dynamic.

When you are talking about the Hobbies, show another garage with a workshop there, and have the same girl and boy with gargles doing something, but when you are talking to the camera, they are kissing, and when you turn and gesture towards the garage, they are working, and not kissing. Make 3 or 4 episodes like that in rather quick succession, and you would have a lively presentation. And if you do not like kissing kids (young adults) you can kill them out of the video.

The point of the vide is that something should be moving. So, move from one scene to another.

4. I did not get the beginning. It is too jumpy, too many faces, it is a bit overwhelming and confusing.

5. Think of something different. If you have kissing youngsters, you can do your presentation, and then set them to look at you and scream that they need a house with a large garage, preferably with a king size bed (LOL). That would be memorable, and would be contrasting your presentation, and then end it all up by saying into the camera again that "remember, I sell houses with BIIIIIIIIIG garages. Call me................. Check me on the Internet................"

This is pretty much it. If you decide to get angry with me... don't. I really like all your other stuff.

Jon - Not getting angry... The sound does suck.  That is where a better camera would really shine.  Your other ideas... there are a few things I'm kicking around to try tomorrow before the deadline.

Ouch, I understand. Even the best idea is useless when you are pressed.

As for the sound, you could try to go simpler way. Do not talk into the camera, but show, point, walk, touch and have the voice narrated separately.

Then you can afford smiling, which would be taken very well. Would be great if you could incorporate text there. This would add another dimension. Having a headline there. Also, your contact info would be better seen and easier taken if it is text.

Hi Lane,

The thing I was most impressed with was the niche you've carved out, GarageHomesUSA.com. It's all about specializing and I think you've nailed it! I see you're a C21 agent. Make sure to get in on their video contest as well. Keep plugging away, brother!

Lane, I enjoyed the setting and focusing on your niche. It got too long in the middle, keep it short and sweet. Over all a good start, you did good, you jumped in which is more than I've been able to do. LOL

LAne - I think you are on the right track. I'm considering doing with video, and your project  will help me decide if it's worth the effort.

Jon - I have another idea, but I would need to be able to shoot it all today... while towing my son around.  Maybe... maybe not...

Mike - If I get a listing...  I'm sold out.

Missy - I'm thinking about re-editing... ok, not thinking about... I'm going to re-edit and shoot at least a portion again.

Larry - Do it...

Lane:

I think you did great!  I really do.  Here are few tips:

There is a bit of background noise.

Natural light is better than electric light.  The quality of the light will improve 100%.

You look very natural on the camera for the MOST part.  There were a couple of seconds where you look like you are reading...and it sounds like pages are turning.

Not being critical...because YOU REALLY CAME ACROSS VERY NATURAL and comfortable on the camera.

I don't...

04/04/2008 10:21 AM by Jessica Horton (Brio Realty)

Jessica - Did you hear Jackson cry?  Boy, I could do "Easter Eggs" in the background sounds.  What are others using a flip-type camera doing with the junky sound?  We are thinking of re-shooting some of that.  The hard part is the noise...

I WAS reading, and there were papers shuffling.  I have to look for a solution to that...

Jessica, with your presentation skills, I would bet that you could do great on camera if you were able to get in the presenter mindset.  Oddly, for being shy there are things that don't phase me at all... cameras and large groups are not a problem for me... I just hate my voice.

Thank you VERY much for the comments... and you were worried you were going to be too tough on me?

04/04/2008 10:48 AM by Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Diamond Dwellings Realty)

Lane,

One of the solutions is not speak into the camera, and tape the sound separately. If you move and show, this would brings it to a minimum when you need to say something right into the camera. However, whenever yu are showing something, you can use separately taped sound.

Jon - When I was looking at cameras, there was a guy that had hacked his.  He put a different (zooming) lens on, and opened up the case and installed an aux. mic. jack.  I think it would have been easier to just buy a better camera...  I'm sure that I will be making changes for future videos.

04/06/2008 10:17 AM by Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Diamond Dwellings Realty)

This is much better than the first version... the sound is really only 'off' in the first part... that's just the acoustics... the rest of it wasn't bad at all.  I think you did a bang up job, Lane.

great job, I have been playing with video but have not gotten myself on camera yet
