If you have not heard yet, Aloha Airlines went out of business three days ago. Just like this, no more flights. Passengers were stranded on Maui for several days, trying to get a flight, with another airline, to go home. I have clients that intended to come to Maui and had to cancel their trips.
When you are in the middle of the Pacific, it really matters how easy it is for visitors to get here. Yes, I know, there are other companies as well, but Aloha was I believe the only one offering direct flights to Sacramento , for instance.
Are my client buyers going to think twice before buying a second home to Maui? Probably so.
80% of my business comes from people that do not live full time on Maui. And about 80% of that is from people that reside full time in California. As a matter of fact, some joke around saying "almost everybody on Maui comes from California".
Our hearts go to the 2000 employees and their families that were just simply told: " Go home!" on Monday morning. Funny enough, the name of the competitor that is (wrongfully) accused of driving Aloha out of business is "GO! Airlines"
Last, but not least, there may not be any more Aloha Airlines, but there is still plenty of ALOHA in the Islands.
