When channels of communication are OPEN, amazing things can happen.
Yesterday, our REALTOR community was shaken by a couple of unscrupulous characters who engaged several female REALTORS with a barrage of text messages. The messages were unsolicited and appeared to be attempts to lure these women into meeting.
Their efforts failed because our local community of REALTORS has established a closed Facebook page which is a lightning fast tool to get the word out about – well – anything.
In a period of less than 18 hours, this “online Village” of REALTORS connected the dots and figured out who the perpetrators are and provided the police with a wealth of information to help them neutralize the threat.
Meanwhile, this same “Village” came to the rescue for one person who needed ducts cleaned for a client . . . another agent in need of a structural engineer . . . and a 3rd agent seeking a referral to a great agent somewhere in LA (Lower Alabama).
While that was happening, me Neighborhood http://nextdoor.com “online village” was busy helping one neighbor find a contractor to build a treehouse in her back yard – 2 wayward cats were returned safely to their homes – a neighbor sold flats of flowers remaining from a school fundraising sale – the whole neighborhood saw a clear picture of a man and his truck robbing a house – AND a tip to buy Christmas wreaths and decorations from a local organization that shelters and employs “battered women.”
“Villages” manifest in many different ways . . . online and real world.
They ARE community in action.
United we stand and protect . . .
Herein lies our strength and security.
Thank you for doing YOUR part!
