Thoughts cause sensations and feelings.
Think it first - feel it second.
For example, I used to have serious anxiety issues when I was much younger. Especially when I had a sales appointment to go to on. It didn't matter if the sales call was on the phone or in person. My stomach would get jittery, my hands would sweat, and I would start to get negative feelings or sensations as the sales appointment approached. Apprehension would then set in and all of this rolled up together led to an uncomfortable experience with less than stellar results.
What did I change? I went in to my "Though Exchange Supermarket" and chose a different thought to explain the anxiety or jittery feeling that would always show up. Up to this point I believed my anxious feelings meant that I was scared and unlikely to achieve a sale. Your brain is a VAST RESERVOIR of both positive and negative thoughts. You have the choice of which thought to assign to your sensations and feelings. It really is up to you.
The next time I had a sales appointment and that same old feeling of anxiety began to creep in I would replace my anxiety laden thoughts with a different thought like this one:
"Wow, isn't it amazing how excited I feel right now driving to my next sales call." I acknowledged the feeling but reassigned the meaning, it's my life, my body, and my thoughts, so why not?
I replaced thoughts of anxiety with thoughts of excitement. Excitement to have the chance to perform, earn, and learn. It may not be a miracle or overnight fix, but, it wasn't long before the "NEW THOUGHT" won out over the NEGATIVE THOUGHT. Also, my results improved as did my overall experience.
My sales calls became happy events to be looked forward too vs. my previous thought connections that were based on anxiety and fear. Passion for my sales job grew and grew. I felt unstoppable and rewarded.
