The Notary Signing Agent Section of the NNA posted an article today with tips Signing Agents should do in between appointments. I think some of these are really good - especially for women who travel alone at night. I think a lot of them go without saying, but here they are:
"Signing Agents should always make sure their vehicle contains the following essentials:
- A full tank of gas. No Signing Agent wants to tell a lender they missed an assignment because they ran out of fuel on the way.
- An inflated spare tire and tools to change a tire. It is never good to get a flat tire, and then find out you can't fix it because you forgot your tools or because the spare has no air.
- A flashlight, map of your travel route, and first aid kit. If you become lost or have a mishap on the way to a night assignment, a flashlight, map and emergency kit can come in very handy.
- A portable charger for a mobile phone. A Signing Agent's mobile phone is critical for timely communication with signers and lenders. It is important to be sure that the phone does not run out of power in transit."
Additional items suggested by myself and other AR members:
- A
golf club in my trunk large heavy steel 24" "multi-purpose" flashlight in briefcase and/or car trunk - Pepper spray in purse and in car door of vehicle
- Quick start battery jumper and air compressor
- Extra water, power bars, a blanket, extra lightweight jacket, and tennis shoes
- Extra pair of comfortable dress shoes - just in case the ones you may have been wearing all day get uncomfortable (live and learn!)
I also think these tips would be helpful for realtors too.

Denise, I'd say that these tips would benefit everyone. I usually have water in my trunk but you've reminded me that I've got to change it out.
When parched in the desert I'm sure even the old water would taste good but because of your post, now I'll have newer water.
If only I was able to carry around a notary! :)
