Thanks-Giving Square Dallas is the perfect place to pause, reflect, and give personal thanks while enjoying creative arts produced by children.. Located in the center of the Dallas business district, the Square occupies a triangular piece of land. Pacific, Ervay, Bryan, and Akard Streets lead to Thanks-Giving Square.
The Chapel Garden is a quiet place to sit and reflect on life. The sounds of city life disappear with the calming sound of flowing water from waterfalls in the garden.
The architecture of the Chapel of Thanksgiving, the hallmark of Thanks-Giving Square, is a symbol of the positive human spirit reaching upward to infinity. The Chapel, made of white marble aggregate, resembles a flower unfolding much like the unfolding of life. The building's architecture has also been interpreted as the flame of life and the human spirit.
The entrance to the building is crowned with a dove etched by English artist John Hutton. The dove was chosen because it is a symbol of hope, peace and thanksgiving.
The Bells of Thanksgiving Square ring at noon every weekday. On holidays and weekends the bells are pealed every half hour. The ringing of the bells is a reminder to stop and give thanks.
Beneath the Chapel is The United States Exhibit Room where visitors can view the first proclamation of American Thanksgiving. The Hall of World Thanksgiving is also located beneath the chapel.
The National Thanksgiving Commission is devoted to keeping alive the history and spirit of our First National Thanksgiving. In 1983, the commission encouraged people of faith around the world to join hands and "love our neighbors as ourselves" and rejoice "in the promise of the Lord's peace and freedom.
May the spirit of Thanksgiving stay in our hearts all year round!
