Last evening I got out an old family recipe and mixed the dough so that my 91 year old mother and I could roll out and bake a few dozen cookies today.
The best part of this entire experience was having my mother join me in the kitchen. She has to use a walker, so I set up the pastry board, rolling pin, cookie cutters and flour at the table so that she could sit and roll out the dough. I helped her with her apron and she was ready. She rolled out and cut out the first dozen and I added the raisin buttons. She tired quickly so I helped her back to her bedroom. I finished rolling out and cutting three more dozen.
It was sweet to see her come back to the kitchen as I removed the last dozen from the oven.
It was fun to sit down together and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee and warm ginger cookies.
I am so grateful and cherish this special time with my mother.
