Hawaii Vacation stopped short Airlines gone

The first call was our inter island carrier was folding on April 1 no joke. We booked additional flights for 5 -our family was taking a trip together. Ouch 800 dollars extra but we are only 12 days away.

The second call came last night. ATA our main trip from LAX declared chapter 11- gone!

We got on the computer and on the phone. The tickets disappeared as we scrambled along with others to book them. Five tickets. the prices now are sky high.

Does anyone have any ideas?

We have travel insurance paid through orbitz that the carriers didn't even carry.

We used American Express and in 6 weeks we might get a refund on our flights. Likely I think!

Our vacation rental home of 3500. for one week, gone for us. I think.

Anybody have any idea how to get to Hawaii for under 500 a ticket? Are those days gone?

It was the price of gas for one airline

It was competition "GO" undercutting the other and killing the Island Based company.

Much like the Wall Mart concept.

When competition is gone what will Go do...what did they already do?

There are bigger problems in the world than our vacation. I do know that. Any suggestions Active Rain world?

I just heard the news this moring about ATA and Aloha both closing their doors this week.  What a mess that you're scrambling last minute.  I know when I flew to Kauai at the beginning of March (I don't know which island you're going to)  it cost $1,500 for a round trip, non-stop flight (and I was taking red-eyes!).  Fortunatly it was footed by my clients on the island, there is NO WAY I would have been able to afford to go otherwise with the prces these days....

I wish you the best of luck though.

OMG Lynne, how awful. What a mess. (This is worse than FedEx delivering all my Trader Joe goods to the wrong company who ate everything in sight without question.) Seriously, I am so sorry. I hope there will be a happier ending to this story... maybe you've avoided a volcanic eruption or something?? Maybe you are needed more, right where you are. Maybe it just sucks.  Thinking of you!

Lynne...I just heard this news last week...Another casualty of astronomical fuel costs.  I wish I could offer some words of wisdom to help you in your plight, but, alas, all I can offer is my sympathy and that I will send good thoughts your way.

Hope everything works out for you.

Aloha Lynne,

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate situation. Many islanders are experiencing the same challenge. If I may, I would suggest looking at SkyAuction.com you may have some luck. Make sure to read the fine print. There are addtional charges that you should consider when bidding for tickets. Also be weary of when certain auctions close and blackout dates. Best wishes.

Peace,
