Well it's the big V-Day, and this holiday, perhaps more than any other in the year, has really got people at polar opposites. Either ya love it or ya hate it, am I right??

So this year I'm celebrating Cupid's big day a little differently. I'm throwing a Single's Awareness Day Party (aka SAD party). Don't worry it's not that depressing (nor am I all that cynical), it's just full of all the wonderful anti-valentines things your imagination can conjure up.... Our plans include replacing the romantic dinner with a healthy alternative of bittersweets and jello shots. We're also celebrating our lack of hookups tonight by watching "40 Year Old Virgin" and who knows, the night could end in a little ex-boyfriend bonfire (pics only of course, not a human barbecue!).

All ridiculousness aside....what if we take on this opposite thinking about marketing? Here's a few options:

1. Instead of telling sellers what to do to sell their house, tell them what NOT to do. Check out the Fish 'n Flush if you haven't already! (Thanks to Maureen Francis & Dmitry Koublitsky for inspiration)

2. Try serving ice cream or popsicles at wintery open houses in place of coffee or tea. You'd be surprised at how many people love it on snowy days!

3. Start generating hype about April Genius Day, the opposite of the more common April 1st hullabaloo. Encourage clients to become Real Estate Geniuses (not so smart as to be without need of your services, of course) and introduce them to the latest and greatest tips and tricks (or pranks!) of the trade, like ActiveRain for example.

I know there are tons of other possibilities out there for this idea, so now I'm gonna turn it over to all my fellow activerainers with the start of a new, ongoing section of my blog...

Realty Challenge 07!

I'll try to post a new question with each blog and then you guys post your answers in the comments. Who knows, maybe we'll even start rating the answers and get a little healthy competition goin' on. I know how you guys thrive in competition.....;)

So for today, I wanna hear all the ways you can think of to turn your marketing efforts upside down. The more creative, the more likely to generate buzz and turn your clients and friends into your own personal sales force as they tell all their friends how cool you are! So have at it. Oh and be sure to check back for other people's ideas you might wanna steal!

Everybody have a lovely (or loathsome) V-day!

Katy you sound very vivacious I like that! Your party should be fun, and I especially liked your idea of doing the opposite of what we have always done on occaision; keeps life spicey and creative I think! I don't get all depressed about V Day either, it's just a day; and I am happy for those who are celebrating with loved ones...like you are tonight :-)  Love the popsicle at open house idea too!

Great ideas-

anything that's different!

Things get sooooo boring, always the same stuff over and over....

I hope you had a great (or miserable?!?) day!

We took your advice and did the opposite-- avoided the high-priced lousy pre-fixe menus and stayed home and had an absolutely miserable duck breast smothered in blackberry port/shallot sauce.  We usually have merlot with that but because you suggested it, we tried a cabernet.  Thanks!

Katy,

Love the Genius Day Idea!!!

A contribution to Realty Challenge '07...

Telling 1st Time Home Buyers what NOT to DO before buying a home, aka... NOT buying a New Car, NOT buying New Appliancesjust before you apply for a mortgage for your new house, NOT racking up credit card debt, NOT paying your bills every other month etc, etc,...

Chris-  Glad to see you tried something different....not sure if I want to take credit for miserable duck breast, but I suppose I should have put up a disclaimer if I wasn't willing to foot the blame, haha!

Way to go, LOLA!  Thanks for actually posting a question to Realty Challenge 07!  And ps- Great advice.  Too many people don't take into account what their credit will look like on paper after big purchases like that.

Well I'm off the hit the slopes of Vail today, but will be back later this weekend with some new bloggin' action!  Take care guys!
