Snow-day in Sawyer County Again Today

It has been a snowy week in Northern and Central Wisconsin this week and last.

Luckily it has also been extremely cold so hopefully the ground and ice are both freezing down despite the think blanket of white insulation.

We do rely on that frozen ground and frozen water during the winter months to get most of our work done where roads are sparse and water is plentiful.

Today Nick was supposed to head north from our Cadott office an hour before daylight, check on a timber sale in Chippewa County at 7, and then proceed up to Sawyer County to do some Boundary Surveying on property near Ojibwa.

He made it as far as the timber sale and after struggling far longer than expected to accomplish this mission he called me to let me know that the surveying would have to wait for another day since the snow on the main roads was up to the axles on his 4x4 truck, and it was coming down so fast that visibility was nearly non existent.

Probably a good decision since precise GPS readings would be required for part of the surveying project and satellites and gps units must be able to see each other for accurate readings to take place.

So I suggested that today would be a good day to get some good photos along the way back to the Cadott office, which I hope he did.

So far no photos have shown up, seems to be a shortage of electricity at the Cadott office since it is run mostly via solar panels which are well insulated from the sun today with that blanket of snow.

So we will have to be content with the picture above that he sent me last week from the office parking lot.

Have a great week and enjoy the snow, it looks like it will be a good year for it.

Strange weather all over Bob. I heard that Buffalo NY had many feet of snow. Are we in for a winter like last years?

Hi, Bob...we aren't seeing much of the while stuff yet, but we do have winter temps. My wood stove is working over time.

PS...I'm also burning lump coal. It's the cleanest burning they've had in years. We have several coal mines east of here and they hit a great vein.

Bob, that's little too early, I guess! We did have a dusting once in New England and yes, temperatures are below freezing but no snow in forecast - at least for a week.

Good morning Bob. No such thing as Indian summer right now for sure. We had a couple of dustings, but nothing serious, but much colder than usual.

Good morning Bob. I don't think we had an Indian summer this year. It seems as if we want from summer to fall and then into the grasps of winter. This is strange weather indeed.

We are watching the snow fall across the country from our seats in Maryland - and are grateful that it is not here yet! Stay warm!

Stay safe out there Bob! It's such a stark contrast to our 72 degrees and sunny weather we have here.

Looks pretty, but cold at the same time.  I haven't been in snow much in my life and I am fine with that, haha.
