Northern Virginia extends from Arlington across the Potomac River from the Nation's Capital to the City of Fredericksburg 40 miles north of the gateway to the real South at Richmond.
If a person served more than 15 years in the military, odds are that they called The Pentagon, Ft. Belvoir or Quantico their duty station for a stint or 2. The FBI, CIA and all the places where people work but cannot say so....are here. But, no need to be afraid...these are the same folks who play music in the pubs, paint water colors for the fairs and bake cookies for the swim meets.
With a population larger than nine US states, Fairfax county is the economic driver for the region yet Fairfax and its sister counties of Loudoun, Prince William and Fauquier have some of the best east coast country scenery as well as some of the oldest standing buildings in the US.
8 US presidents were born in Virginia and most spent much time lunching in Northern Virginia. In fact the most famous presidential hangout is Mt. Vernon... home of George Washington on the banks of the Potomac in Southern Fairfax. You should visit.
I love this place. The energy, creativity and artistry of our people is world class and leading edge, yet you can relax in the 18th century 40 minutes from almost anywhere.
