If You Knew You COULD NOT Fail.

Our coaching company focuses on working with Realtors to improve their businesses.  But we also work with them to help them improve their lives away from real estate.  One exercise we use to get people thinking about their true dreams and goals, is we ask the question,"If you knew you COULD NOT fail, what 5 things would you accomplish?  Remember, you CANNOT fail."  Some people when asked this question can answer it almost immediately, others reply that they have no idea.  Well, that's the point of the exercise.  It is to get you to begin thinking about what you really would like to accomplish, without the doubts and opinions of all the naysayers.  There are no limits on this question, take a moment and think to yourself, "What would I want to accomplish if I knew I COULD NOT fail."  I would like to share with you my answers when I first asked myself this question 6 years ago:

1.  Start my own coaching and motivation business. (Done)

2.  Host my own motivational radio show. (Done, but would like to continue doing it.)

3. Host my own motivational television show. (In the idea only stage.)

4. Start a completely self-help TV network. (Pitched the idea a few times, but have not gotten anywhere yet.)

5. Build the Bungert Children's Hospital on Long Island. (My ultimate life goal.)

As you can see by my answers, there are smaller dreams and really big dreams.  I'm 2 for 5 so far, and you never know, I might go 5 for 5.  The only way to accomplish your true dreams and goals, is to first know what they are.  Then you can go about taking the steps necessary to accomplishing your goals.  Take a few minutes this morning, go somewhere quiet, bring a pad and pen with you and just start to think about this question.  Think about what you would truly like to accomplish in this life, write down your answers and then begin making the first one happen.  Heck, you'll probably be 2 for 5 before you know it!  I'd like to leave you this morning with one of my favorite quotes, it's by a man who knows a thing or two about accomplishing dreams.

All our dreams can come true-if we have the courage to pursue them. -Walt Disney

Until next time, all the best!

Kevin Bungert

P.S.  If anyone can help me accomplish 3,4 and 5 on my list, I'd love to talk with you!

A self-help network on tv would be HUGE! THat is a great idea. Go on Donny Duetsch with the BIG IDEA!

Kevin, I think that I read somewhere that the famous Howard Hughes did a similar exercise when he was young. If I recall correctly, two of the things that he wrote were "become a famous movie director" and "become a world famous pilot".

Christopher- I love Donny's Show!  You're right I NEED to do more with this idea.  Thank you!

Katie-  I did not know that!  Thank you for telling me this, I will use it as an example all the time now!

Good luck with your goals and I hope you reach them...

Kevin, I found a notation from the biography channel. You can find it here. His declared goals as a teenager were to become the world's best golfer, the world's best pilot and the world's best movie producer.

Hi Kevin - To paraphrase the immortal words of Earl Nightingale, "We are and can be nothing else other than the sum of our thoughts.  We are what we think about."  I, for one, must get out of the pattern of negative thoughts (as hard as it is in the mortgage industry today) and improve my attitude to achieve the items on my list.  I was on the right track for a long time, but I suppose even the best get detoured every once in a while.  Best of luck, and have a great weekend.

Steven- The best get detoured just like the rest of us.  We just have to get back at it!  All the best!

Thesa- Thank you, if Danny Thomas can do it, why not me?  Have a great weekend!

Hi Kevin - just went through your blog - great content. I guess it's on to goals #3 & #4... and I think their some synergies between these two goals. Then you take your success from those and tackle #5!
