Use Video as an Introduction

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Properties SW, Inc.

We've found that a short video works as well as a bio for a lot of today's younger clients. You might take a look at this one (warning: full volume audio) and give me your comments:

If enough people are interested, I'll post a second blog detailing the steps to take to do it yourself.

Namaste!

Eric

Ok. I got busy and created another blog post on how to create this type of video. I originally placed the link in the comment stream below, but I see that I've had quite a few more viewers here than on the how-to post, so here's the link in case you don't find it below: How to create a video introduction

Of course you should send out the steps to do one! What were you thinking asking if you should (LOL!)?

I would love to learn how to do a video bio. My videos so far are not very enticing!

I already have a 1 minute introduction video that I use and am happy with, but I think everyone should consider a video if they do not already have one.

Would love your critique

Animoto - great tool! I looked at it a few years ago & not impressed. It kept getting mentioned at Tech Classes recently, so looked again - YOWZA - much improved. I use the same template on some property videos, but good idea for an intro video - may borrow it - THANKS!

Hi All! Thanks for the comments. Sorry to be slow in responding, but I'm also writing the second novel in a sci-fi trilogy along with working real estate full time and handling renovations for our investment company, so I've had my plate full. I will put up a post on the steps late today and link to it in this comment stream for convenience. As Travis noted above, I'm using Animoto. You might as well set up an account if you're going to do this. You can use the free intro account, but it's limited. I'd do that at first and then consider getting a pro account - that gives you many more options. Watch for my next post and thanks for your interest.

Thanks for posting this information. What's the rule about video length of time for introductions? It appears that 1:48 is too long IMO.

I have resisted video as I do not like it, but I know it is popular and I need to do it.  This is going to sound really mean, and I know I do not speak for most consumers, but I feel like I have just bombarded myself with 1:48 seconds of very busy (menally tiring) sensory input, when I should have been able to scan a piece of paper or computer screen and get the basics of what I wanted in a quite 10 seconds and then decide if I need more.

Gene and Kimo,

Good points, both. It all depends on what you are using the video to accomplish. As a business card, this one is too long. However, there is a section of the population - quite a large one, too - that prefers video to reading. This particular video is intended to serve in place of a bio on an  "About Us" page. It would be probably a good idea to offer both options. The other thing that this video does, is to serve as a screening device. It's a little long for a simple commercial, but I'm fairly certain that if someone watches the whole thing, they're pretty interested in working with us. If I send this to a potential client in advance of an appointment and then find that they haven't watched it, I'll take that as a sign that they may have already made a decision to use someone else. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of my time being used simply to allow someone to say, "Sure, I interviewed three agents." Sound harsh? Maybe, but I can use that hour to contact someone who will actually use my services. Link: How to create a video introduction
