Ocean City, New Jersey ... In the late Fall & Winter

The calendar reads Friday ... November 21, 2014.  It's cold outside.  No snow like the "lake-effect stuff in the north, but it certainly feels like winter.  It warmed up just a bit yesterday, but cold again today.  The holiday season is slowly arriving.  You can tell in the real estate office that it is a type of slowdown taking place.  There are still about fourteen of us in the office ... some upstairs, others downstairs.

Although we may sell a few properties between now and the end of the year, it is slowly starting to be the holiday period leading into the long winter nap for two months.  Not much will be happening with real estate until the beginning of the new year ... and that will only be rental activity for next summer.

For those not knowing much about our barrier island in South Jersey called Ocean City, we are a resort community with the population moving up to 150,000 in the summer months, but sinking to a low of about 10,000 in the dead of winter after the holidays.  It can certainly get cold down here, the wind off the ocean can blow long and hard, and most of us are in the house before dark for the rest of the evening.

We happen to have a great community center with a first class library, a fitness center, and much more.  That helps take the chill off a cold evening with a few warm books to read by the fireplace back at our house.  The downtown is off and on "open" most of the time ... although a number of stores adjust their time frame and often take a few weeks off over the winter.

Finally, our island is only a two mile drive across the bridge to Somers Point in one direction and Longport and Margate in another.  So there are plenty of locations for a great dinner out with a very limited crowd even on a Saturday evening.

And on a sunny day when the temp might rise to the 40s, you can take a longer walk along the beach and get a great winter experience without seeing anyone during your entire walk.  How can anyone complain about this location!!!
