More plug-in spots for electric car owners on Maui

Rising Sun Solar - electric carWith more and more people on Maui owning electric cars, the options for charging are looking better all the time. Today there will be 2 new charging stations at the Whole Foods Market in the front of the Maui Mall in Kahului. Currently there are also 2 stations at Whaler's Village in Kaanapali. These aren't the only options, as I see them in other places, such as Costco.  Plug in for a couple of hours while shopping or watching a movie.

Volta Industries of Honolulu is supplying this service, and the sponsors are American Savings Bank and Rising Sun Solar.

I'm seeing a lot more Leaf cars on the road these days, and with the high price of gas in the islands it totally makes sense.  I'm tempted to get an electric car too and will be keeping an eye on the new models.

Did you know that electric cars can park in metered parking spaces for free? That's what I read in the story by Pacific Business News. Read the full story here.

Search for homes for sale in the central area of Kahului and Wailuku Maui.  If you lived in Kahului it would be really easy to charge up your car and drive home!

Glad to see that I find it interesting here in LA we probably have the most Electric Cars compared to the rest of the country but very few plug in stations.... now they started to do it in parking garages, veterinarian garages so finally we are heading in the right direction....Endre

Electric cars are becoming more and more popular and it's getting easier to find somewhere to get an extra charge while you shop or eat!!

Yes the cars and plug-in stations kind of go hand in hand. I hope to see more of both in the future!

Thanks for reading my blog.

Georgie Hunter considering fuel costs for gas in Hawaii, I can understand why alternative fueled vehicles would be a hit there.

Georgie- great post!  Do they have to pay  to charge the car or is it free charging?  I would think this could get expensive for a business owner if they are paying the bill.

Georgie, I don't know of any charging stations where I live, of course I haven't been looking for them either. I've actually only seen one car plugged into a house where it parks.
