Word of the day : Words (1 of 2)

By
Real Estate Agent with RLAH / @properties DC / MD / VA

A few weeks ago, I write a few posts on different words which repeatedly come to me.

This evening, I gave a talk at Toastmasters, and I spoke of 2 tools which I have as a Realtor.

Today's post is on tool #1: Words.

Whether speaking to a potential client, or a client, or a group of people, or colleagues.

Whether trying to elicit the answer we want, or simply trying to finetune information.

Opportunities can be made to bloom or possibilities can be made to cease.

Visions can be conjured or hell can be conjected.

This, all of this, we can do with words.

Whether we use these words in speaking, in a phone conversation, in a personal note, in an email, in a glossy brochure, or in a contract.

Words, when used properly, can change someone's perceptions and ideas.  For instance, just a few paragraphs about my puppy and surely you'd rent to me if I were your tenant.  It wasn't magic, simply a few words.

Just as deflty they can be used to create, likewise they need to be monitored.

As important as words are, the importance and value of that which isn't stated should not be discounted.  Nor should the value of silence be forgotten.

While this has all been used in reference to a professional capacity, the same is true in a personal capacity.

Yes, my talk this evening started with the value of "words".

a few words can convey a huge and powerful message, as well as way too many words being used to say nothing at all.  My Grandmother used to tell me to "choose your words wisely".  I try.

Tammy Lankford She was right.  Clear & succint is always better; and retrieval is often very difficult. Words can do so much good, they can heal so much.  I'll keep that thought as I end my day; the positive power of words.

Claude, words are very powerful. We can use them for good and not so good. Tammy Lankford 's grandmother was a wise woman ... we do need to choose our words wisely.

Yes word are powerful.  We do  need to be especially carful when writing them in an email.  words without the spoken inflections, can sometimes be mistaken in ways the author did not intend.

Hi Claude Labbe , Now that's an important topic.  Words can create a mood, as well how you say that word.  You can lose a client or gain a client by saying the same word, but using it in different ways or sounds. Wow! What a topic!

Kathleen Daniels As agents, we do need to be aware of our power. Surely the same is true as people, and as grandparents.

Christine Yedo Johnson Such a true statement.  I find that I rely on the emoticons, more than I should. But yes, tone is critical to content.

Larry Johnston Just as our words as professionals can be important, we've got 2 ears so as to listen to our clients twice as much.  THEIR words are just as important, sometimes more so.

Debbie Walsh Yes, but I'd rather try to use words for good than not.

Good evening Claude.  Yes words can be something to be very careful of.  They can be more damaging than a physical weapon or more soothing than the tender touch of a spouse.  Mark
