So Its That Time Of Year Again,

Get The Ladder.

We try to get to many of the properties to clear the gutters before the major rain season. That has been interesting in the drought years! :) The idea is the get the months of debris out so that the water can flow freely during the heavy rains. There can be some problems though.

Not all of the leaves have fallen from the trees and will be falling and clogging downspouts despite the cleaning. Of course the initial cleaning will reveal rusty parts, loose gutters, and leaks that need to be addressed. It is best to get this taken care of before the rains.

Contact a contractor who has experience in gutter repairs and installation.

Yes, gutter cleaning is tricky business.  Here we have lots and lots and lots of leaves and still a few more to fall.

On virtually every inspection I do where the house has the ability to acquire leaves and such in the gutters, I recommend solid gutter covers.

I have K-Guard Gutters on my house.  They are terrific.

Yes we still have leaves left to fall, and it's supposed to snow 7-10 inches today so it might be a bit late!

Good morning Tom. I promise you, in our area the leaves are long gone and none are in our gutters, but your post is timely in your part of the country for sure.

Tom it is amazing how many people neglect this. I wonder what is the percentage of  gutters that are caked full of leaves and debris? Something so simple can cause so much damage if not taken care of properly.

My husband just mentioned this the other day...it's on the list.  Unfortunately it's been snowing all day today. Plus, we still have leaves on the trees!

I saw a guy cleaning my neighbor's gutters and asked about the cost, he charged only $99 if he could di it right then. I had seen water overflowing the gutters on a couple of occasions so I jumped at the chance. He found two small basketballs and a tennis ball that were blocking the drains on three of my downspouts. Almost no leaves. Who would have guessed, I don't kids at home. LOL
