Responsibility and Republican Economics Part II

from Blogs For John McCain's Victory by KMorrison

"I noted in Republicans Economics 101 that the McCain campaign needs to do a better job at explaining why Republican economics work.   Personal responsibility is the key element that needs to be addressed.  There has been much talk about how the candidates would fix the mortgage crisis, and for the Democrats this consists of bailouts.  However, actions have consequences, and irresponsibility should not be rewarded.  The challenge is that opposing bailouts is often portrayed as uncaring or greedy.  In reality these bailouts punish responsible people.  Encouraging wastefulness and government dependance harms the economy and society as a whole.  There is a role for government when people have been duped, or have extreme circumstances, but the idea that government is supposed to fix my life if I mess up is both poor economics and condesending. "

"and for the democrats, this means bailout"? Who came up with the Economic stimulas package and the tax rebate. Greedy investers were buying these bad notes and so the lenders just kept making them worse because they couldn't sell them off fast enough. now everyone wants the government (taxpayers) to bail them out. WAMU , Bear Stearns, and Countrywide are under investigation....I am sure more will come out of hiding in the near future. McCain is busy appologizing for his stand against MLK day in Arizona....is he truely sorry, or just needs more minority votes?

Ron Paul has a better finger on it.

Steve, The democrats just want to bring us further and further into socialism. Its a shame that so few people in this country believe in personal responsibility any more.

Chuck, Ron Paul is a non-issue, sorry.

Hugh, I'm with ya, where did buyer beware and personal resposibility and insurance for catastrophe go?  We've turned ourselves into Sweden.  I don't want to be Sweden.

Steve, the monkey scares me, but so do clowns.

The House and Senate races are perhaps even more important than the White House race. It is winnable I am sure.

Dems are slowly losing and they don't like it. They will surely accuse the Republicans of cheating or stealing the election again. As for any type of bailouts, including the post 9-11 airline ones, I am against them. I am also against any type of farm subsidies which gets me in a lot of hot water up here in Idaho.

Kevin, I have to agree about farm subsidies.  With commodities running at extremely high levels, this is the opportune time to eliminate them and save us all some pork money.   I feel the same way about oil, I would not support increasing taxes on one individual industry, but I would suggest this is the time to take away any tax incentives that were offered to this one industry.

One common theme - reduce the size and cost of government and let Americans do what they do best with less government on their backs.

Steve Your right, but the bigger problem is that their all Politicians!. We need to put a Businessman in office, one that has some salesman experience too! That is why none of them can balance a budget or has any idea what a budget is. One needs to create money in order to spend it. Most Realtors, Mortgage Brokers, and Appraisers,  can understand that alot more than Politicians. Because their self employed, and have had to do it themselves. It's not rocket science, and doesn't even require a business degree, though that would help.

That's a good point Chuck.  I have had some experiece in local politics and the business people do tend to be better managers of our money in government when elected.

Does anyone remember back after 9-11. Bush wanted the power to declare war...congress said no...but then they traded favors for a health care plan that has never materialized the way they said it would, because they thought he wouldn't really do it.....So, while Both the Dems and Reps were playing with our lives to get thier own way like a bunch of spoiled children that had to have the nanny take the gold spoon out long enough for them to scream until they got thier way. I am in no way an advocate for child abuse...but it's time we slap all the politicians, put them in the corner for a long time out, and vote in some business guru's to straighten out this mess....How about Jim Cramer!
