Traditions of the Holidays
Does your family have traditions around the holidays?
To me nothing says Christmas is just around the corner better than the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I marched in the Powassan Lion's Club Marching Band in high school and my youngest son marches in the Towson High School Marching Generals - we both share the dream of some day marching in the Macy's Parade. The General's have marched in many parades. But, every Thanksgiving morning we turn on the television and flip to the parade and pay particular attention to the marching bands.
I started cooking yesterday so I could spend time with my family. This morning I made pecan pie. I'm trying a new recipe this year for "Mashed Roots", it is a combination of parsnips, yukon gold potatoes and rutabagas. The turkey is in the turkey roaster with stuffing. I'm cooking sweet potatoes now and will put them in a casserole dish with marshmallows for the oven later.
My oldest son and his room mate will be here for dinner and so will my friend Sherry. Unfortunately, my daughter Kristen won't be with us this year. Sometimes we'll have more people for dinner, last year we had 8 for dinner, the year before we had 12.
We have so much to be thankful for this year:
- Continued good health
- Enough
- My business is good - I have had some of the greatest clients who have now become good friends
- A great family
- The support of a great company and great management in my office
