HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL .... We wish you many blessings as you head into the Christmas Season.

We had a great day cooking and really enjoying a day of rest. It was spectacular indeed.

What does Black Friday really mean and why was it called BLACK FRIDAY

The Term BLACK FRIDAY was first coined in the 1960's back in the day when we did things by hand .... Really we did things by hand in spread sheets OHHHHH my yes we really did that hand wrote out our financial records.

We used black and red pens and or pencils yep that is correct...... Red meant we were in the hole black meant we were finally making a profit.

Therefore the PHRASE BLACK FRIDAY meant the stores were finally making a profit.

Makes one think about being in business for yourself it takes all year to make a profit so you have one month to make the money that is above and beyond what it takes to make ends meet each month.

The meaning is something totally different now. Although it does open the Christmas Shopping season it is more about the sales that are supposed to be going on.

For several years there has been a trend to raise the prices up and then lower then for the

BLACK FRIDAY specials.

Either way you go .... if you do attempt to head out and about to shop on BLACK FRIDAY the crowds will be huge ... Enjoy your day with those you care about or if you are alone that is OK as well have a blessed day full of joy and happiness.

It is all about Christmas and the real reason for the season CHRISTMAS

We do not have BLACK FRIDAY specials in Real Estate but you can say that maybe alot of sellers would like to be under contract and sold by the end of the year.

I've never really joined in on the Black Friday madness....can't imagine standing in line for an entire day and fighting the crowds to save a little money. The only time I've ever taken advantage of a Black Friday deal was when I bought my iPad....that was online....no lines!

Laura - Thanks for the history lesson! I've only been shopping once on Black Friday, and it was because my husband dragged me out (we had an interesting relationship)! This was before the truly silly super sales that start at 6:00AM, so we didn't have to fight those sorts of crowds, but it was really crowded in the mall we went to. I will admit, we were both in a good mood, and it was actually a lot of fun.

Black Friday is now becoming Black-last-week-in-November, or so.

There is a local dog shelter (Fairfax VA County Animal Shelter) here today that had a great idea. They had "Black Fur day". They were giving away black and almost black dogs, for free. From my own experience, I've learned that shelters have a rough time with black dogs because people don't like them. Lucky for us, that meant our black Chipper was available for us.

I'm not sure that was the intention in the 1960's, but it works.
