Last minute project before Thanksgiving

We love to host Thanksgiving at our house. It is the one holiday that we enjoy a traditional meal with our family. When we purchased our house earlier this year the living room was awkward for furniture placement. I wasn't sure how we were going to place the furniture so that the room didn't feel cluttered. It's a typical 1950's house where all the rooms are closed off. The first thing we did was paint the walls and the built in bookcase that surrounds the stairs. Then we lived with it that way for almost 9 months.

Then after countless hours watching home decorating shows and searching Pinterest we finally came up with an idea to change the built in bookcase into a TV stand. The first hurdle was to get a satellite TV connection in. Within a few days of calling our provider we were in business. We took off the top two shelves of the bookcase and touched up the paint.

Then we could start moving the furniture around. Once we relocated the TV we had to secure it to the bookcase for safety. Now when our family is all here for Thanksgiving we won't feel like we are sitting on top of each other. This is a perfect example of how a house may not be perfect for you at the time you purchase the house but you can make simple or major changes and make it into the perfect home for you. This project was minimal in cost but the benefits are tremendous for us and our family. You might notice that the doorway by the stairs is gone. This was a second small doorway into the kitchen that we made into our pantry. The light cover was also replaced by a mason jar with an Edison light bulb. The next project is changing a small basement bedroom into a guest room. The plan is to change a small white box into a relaxing beach themed guest room.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Looks like you did a great job with this!  Pinterest is a great resource for design ideas, isn't it? :)  Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
