Be Mindful of the Blue Sign

When making your next home puchase, make sure you are mindful of homes on private oads. I am sure evey state is different, but in South Carolina, private roads ae signified by blue street signs.

VA lenders like to see a maintained road. Someimtes, this may be easier said than done.

I have seen some agents go though the ringer trying to get homeowners on a private street to agree sign a maintenance ageement.

Maintenance of the street may seem like an afterthought, but it can become a critical bit of infomation when you go to sell the home in a few years, by limiting the kind of loan prospsective buyers can use.

I live on a private road, the previous owner was able to get the county to pave the road prior to us buying it but normally they wouldn't do that but the water meter for our house is located right in front of our house not at the street end of our road therefore the road must be maintained by the county - so I'm told.

Chase requires a signed maintenance agreement as well... even on Conventional.  Good reminder.

Good evening Keith.  This is becoming more and more of an issue in North Idaho.  Good point for all to be aware of Keith.  Thank you for the post.  Mark
