Are you a Reader?

Right now, I'm working on a promo video that will give clients a small glimpse of who I am and what I do as a Realtor.  I went to a seminar once were the speaker asked the audience, if they like to read more or watch something. The interesting thing is we associate reading with intelligence so we tend to say we read or we like to read, but if fact the majority are more visual.  Don't believe me than think of it this way... Jurassic Park...did you read the book or watch the movie???

Now I admit that's not a 100% proof that a person is visual or not, but it's something to think about. Will people read the bio about me on my website www.BuyandSellNapaRealEstate.com (...shameless plug) or will they rather, watch the short video??

Well we will see. The promo video is up. Personally, I think videos are great, if they are done correctly they can be educational, informative and entertaining.

Hi Giselle, I think videos are a great idea - I am starting to introduce them into my marketing as well. I have one constructive criticism for you even though you didn't ask - at the beginning of each video, highlight why the viewer should watch. For example, "If you're looking for a pool, this house is for you!" Something of an ice breaker I suppose. Good luck!

I tend to lean towards reading but there are others out there that prefer watching versus reading.  So using both marketing tools should be a win-win!!

I am a reader. I don't read fiction, so the Jurassic Park analogy won't work for me...but good point. I hate it when I get to a story or website only to find the information I need is in video form....I always leave the site. Guess I'm a reader.

I'm with Karen - if there's only a video, I'll usually leave. I read fast and skim - and don't like taking the time to watch/listen while someone "reads it to me."

In addition, my Internet service is via satellite, and some videos come in so slowly that even if I really want the information, I'm apt to give up and go away.

My advice is to use video because some people like it - but ALSO use words people can read.

By the way, I DO read fiction, but didn't read Jurassic Park OR see the movie. If' you'd asked about Gone With the Wind, I'd have said "I've done both, multiple times."

All really great comments thank you everyone for the feedback. Eren Miliam good point one I will definitely use! (Thank you). Yes that fact that the test was on Jurassic Park as one way of determining is kind of a joke, but it still hits the point home. Karen Fiddler I hear that you don't read Fiction...but did you watch the movie? That was kind of the point that we like visuals just like a person rather see a rainbow than read about one. Videos though can be poorly done and boring (kind of like my current Iphone blob..lol), but if they are intriguing and capture our interest we will watch. Not all things appeal to all people but I totally agree with Kathyrn and doing both will be a win, win. Once again thank you for all the comments I just loved reading them. ~ Have a great prospers day :) Giselle

Don't watch videos except vary rarely a how-to. Too time consuming (you can't skim) and I'm not terribly interested in what the person has to say or the video angles they want to show me. I want the details in black and white. If it's interesting I might go to the video, or just schedule the showing.

Video is the future, however, as you stated, it's only videos produced correctly that are the future. Short snippets of vital information leading the viewer to take action will be the new marketing medium.

Don't forget to optimize that video & Google will eat it up. You have to have both actually or link the written profile at the bottom of the vid also. Use your G+ account.

I am a reader, and although I haven't read Jurassic Park, when I have both read the book and seen the movie, I almost always like the book better.  As others have noted, I think it is important to use both tools when marketing.  I can usually read faster than the video, so I like words, but I know videos can get way more attention.

Dear Giselle,

I tend to read, but may be the exception here.

I will admit to being a reader. It's probably my age, but I don't respond well to video stuff. And when it's something I really want to absorb and concentrate on, I need to print it, read it, mark it up.

I read sometimes, but if there is a training video on how to do something I will choose that option because it is usually faster. Since I am back in school I read often for more in depth understanding of different topics.

Giselle~ I'm more visual. I would likely prefer a video, but that needs to be short and sweet too.

Giselle Lampe Although I am a visual person, I prefer reading.  I scan for the info I'm seeking and find it frustrating to watch a video.  That said, I know I am in the minority and videos are huge when it comes to SEO. I do find that I enjoy getting to know someone through their voice and demeanor in a video.  I did a video yesterday for a vendor on my list, as a satisfied customer and will eventually do a "get to know me video" and some neighborhood videos.  I look forward to seeing your video.

I do like movies, but I like to read.  In fact after seeing Jurassic Park I read the book, because they are always better.  Then I read the rest of Chriton's (I know I spelled it wrong) books.   I do not like video when I am shopping or looking for something on line.  I want it in writing.  I can glance it over and get what I want quick.  Video is a waste of time, generally.  Of course I realize video is an important marketing tool and I need to meet clients where they are at.

Well the video is finally here I would love to know what you all think

(By the way it's longer at 4 minutes but he's given me the hard drive and enabled me to use short clips as well for different marketing)

Giselle, I stumbled across this.....  You have a seriously well done video!    If you wrote about its making, I think would be featured.   Your husband puts a great icing on the cake.
