Christmas may officially be 24 days away, but that does not mean you have to wait that long to celebrate. In fact, one of our most cherished holiday traditions comes to the Reno area this very weekend. That is when the Sparks Hometown Christmas Celebration 2014 happens!
What: Sparks Hometown Christmas Celebration 2014
Where: Victorian Square, Downtown Sparks
When: December 5 6:30pm to 7pm, December 6, 2014 1pm to 3pm
Cost: FREE
There is so much to enjoy at the Sparks Hometown Christmas Celebration 2014 that it takes over two days to fit it all in. Start the festivities off right at Victorian Square with Christmas carols, live entertainment and a beautifully decorated tree lighting from 6:30pm to 7pm on Friday evening. Then, come back on Saturday at 1pm for the Christmas parade. Living Stones Church will be offering free hot cocoa to those who come early to the parade.
This year's parade theme is "It's Happening Here All Year Round: A Celebration of Our Hometowne Events". Just a few of the sights you will see throughout the parade include snowmen eating ribs, some of Santa's elves driving a cherry '65 Mustang and the big man himself, Santa Claus, riding in on a jet ski. Santa will be stopping off after the parade is over to visit with all the good little boys and girls that come to see him. If you're really good, he may even pose for a few pictures. So, don't forget your camera!
After the Sparks Hometown Christmas Celebration 2014 is over, you can get some holiday shopping done at the Heritage Museum. There will be a wonderful indoor Hometowne Craft Faire going on where I am sure you will be able to find presents for even the hardest to shop for person on your list. Sparks is definitely keeping things merry and bright this weekend. Come on over and see what all the fuss is about!
