New Year's resolutions have gotten so hard to keep that many of us have discarded the practice altogether. But thanks to technology, keeping them can be a whole lot easier. Here are some of the most common resolutions, and free apps that can help you stick with them.

  1. Lose weight
Nutrino - Provides personalized meal recommendations based on the user's profile, goals, habits, and tastes. It also includes a health coach, relays health and nutrition research, and connects to fitness apps and wearable devices. (iOS, Android coming soon)
  2. Exercise
Human - Uses location tracking to measure daily walking, running or biking activity and lets you know when you've reached the recommended 30 minutes each day. The app kicks in automatically after one minute of movement, and users don't need to enter any data manually. (iOS)
  3. Eat healthier
Fooducate - Lets grocery shoppers scan product bar codes to find out the food's health value, rated by letter grades A to D. The app also offers healthier alternatives and can compare two products side-by-side. (iOS, Android)
  4. Manage stress
Take a Break! - Allows users to choose a 7- or 13-minute guided meditation, along with optional relaxing music and nature sounds, to help relax at work or relieve stress. (iOS, Android)
  5. Stop smoking
Quit Smoking (Azati) - Weans users off cigarettes gradually. Based on statistical data from other users, each individual's personalized, step-down schedule is continuously adjusted to their specific smoking pattern. (Android)
