Probably common sense, but...

It’s probably common sense, but those of you like me who are too busy to even think straight, here’s a tip.  Drain your rain barrels in the winter!  In the last couple of days the temperatures have gotten low enough to freeze the water left inside my barrels and split them down the middle.  In the years past I have disconnected the fill tubes from the downspouts and drained the water from them, but this year I couldn’t find the plugs that replace the hole in the downspout the fill tube plugs into, so I figured what’s the harm in keeping them connected.  A little wishful thinking, but maybe come spring time Lowes will have a sale on rain barrels.

Walking with you on your journey home.

After the past few drought years here in CA, I flinch at the idea of letting water go.  But I had not thought about them freezing.

Thanks for the post.

I just drained my rain barrels.... Look in early spring many local water companies will have a one day sale (April) and specials on rain barrels for their customers.
